What did you do in the garden today?

Nice

Nice.. most important thing to do is for every 2 squash you cut you must remove 2 leaves/stems.. I try to keep all stems and leaves just above the fruit, and remove all the long blossum shoots, since they can’t support a squash, leave only short blossums/fruit connected directly to the main stalk.. it takes a week or 10 days to get the stalk goin good but pruning stems/leaves early on makes a faster straighter growing plant/tree.. yours look great.. just take the long straight non fruit bearing shoots off. All energy will go to thick stems and leaves above fruit and then the next 2 fruit and so on and so on
Thank you! I got the idea from a YT video, but am just muddling around learning what works.

I looked again in my seed box and found my cucumber seeds! They are some kind of pickling cucumber I bought for some reason. I think because they were resistant to some diseases, and I'm not a big cuke fan anyway. I just wanted to plant some. My first planting is coming along, and this morning I planted the remaining 12 seeds along the now cleared off pea trellis.

There was damage to my garden last night. I'll post later with pics.

I did my bush squash vertically last year too - but did them up a cattle panel hoop. Those things got so big they outgrew the panel & starting coming back down the side. I had one left at the end of the year that had to be 10 feet tall before it finally succumbed to powdery mildew. I did them under bug netting too so I'm not sure what contributed to the success, probably a bit of everything.

As a matter of fact, I just fed the chickens the last of last years harvest of squash. I made zoodles out of it & they weren't very good frozen & thawed. Won't do that again. Chips it is from now on! :drool Course I don't have any growing this year...

Still smokey here, lucky us made reservations to take mom to dinner - outside. Can't wait for the rain to come & wash some of this nastiness away. I did water today tho.

Enjoying another rhubarita before dinner. :D Honestly, it's to kill the pain, having an auto immune flare at the moment & of course the back pain. I don't get out much anymore because of it so I refuse to let it ruin what little plans I have - rhubarita it is! 🥂

Yep, that was a great article about growing red huckleberries. I hope I can get some cuttings to root. It would be cool!

Edited to add:

Dang, I think I'm starting to hear fireworks booming in the distance. I loved blowing stuff up when I was a kid, but these days I like peace and quiet.
I remember my mom getting us fireworks and saying “You might as well burn 10 dollar bills!” :gig That was in the days before the tribes started selling good stuff!
