What did you do in the garden today?

I grew mine in a 5 gallon bucket this year in hopes of pruning them down and bringing them inside for the winter.
I tried growing them in buckets last year. One died and the other didn't thrive. I used the same soil I am using in the raised bed this year. Totally different results.

Last week I mentioned that I purchased a "new" used Murray riding lawn mower from our local Fleet store. When I got it home, I discovered that the brakes were not adjusted properly and the lawn mower would free wheel down a slope. Very unsafe.

Anyways, I talked to the small engine manager and she took the rider back to the shop, fixed the brakes, and returned it to me with no charge! Normally, the pickup and dropoff alone is $30 each way. So, the machine is running fantastic and you can see here that I am putting it to good use. I have a bunch of tools in that cart and was trimming up dead branches and weed whacking all over the yard today. Got 2 loads of branches loaded up and taken care of before noon today.

Dear Wife has a "wild" flower garden next to the house and she wanted me to trim off some branches that were overhanging her garden and blocking out the sunshine. So, I cut down the branches and she loaded them up into the tow behind cart. Made it a bit easier for me because she had to pull the branches while I cut them with the pole saw. She had to pull them so they would not crash down on her flowers. Teamwork makes Dreamwork!

I don’t know if you remember me, I was on here before and showed my superhots in containers and my pepper farm I used to have.. pre tornado.. but I’ve been gone a year or more and came back but couldn’t access my old account someone said I was hacked?.. I don’t know much about it.. but anyhow, Flint McCollough was my name.. I was more active in the garden section than bird.sections back then.. I explained overwintering pepper plants to the folks on here.. and shared a lot.. good to see some familiar names still here.. I remember you and several others.. keep on keepin on.. and share pictures of your overwinters when the time comes...

Buckets are good for peppers.. I used to grow 2-300 varieties of capsicum, many rare types from all around the world..

I tried to overwinter my peppers last year by keeping them in the ground but insulating & covering them. Didn't work. They all died. But to be fair, we also got that freak - 20 below cold spell that lasted a week. Not at all normal for us. In the 20 years I've lived in the South, this is the first time that kind of scenario has ever happened. Oh well, we'll see if pruning them down and bringing them inside provides better results.

My bucket peppers. This was a month ago. They've grown big enough that I had to add support for the plants.

I know some people are not going to be impressed that I was harvesting peppers in late June. However, I live in northern Minnesota in Zone 3B and typically I don't have any peppers to pick until late August. Also, I'm not a very good gardener, but I'm learning. I've got to shout out my limited successes when I can. Hope people understand.
I. Am. Impressed. And I understand the need to shout out when something like this happens. Shout on, @gtaus, shout on.

I'm glad to hear that they did right by you.

It was impossible for me to get a fence up around my garden, so I'm letting the deer have it this year. Last year the garden wasn't fenced at all and the deer did minimal damage.

I protected my tomato plants the best I could. I pulled up the remaining broccoli plants and gave them to the chickens. I'm guessing that all the squash plants will be eaten by tomorrow morning.

Gardening used to be fun....
