What did you do in the garden today?

What's your source for this prediction? So hoping it's wrong...

I'm really afraid my hubby was right when he said, "We might remember this summer as "cool" compared to future summers.
I saw it as a quick thing when I was watching the news? I don’t remember where exactly but I remember seeing it around something weather related and that it’s possible. Although anything is possible really. I’ll see if I can any info on it and post a link.

I don’t know that I’d draw any conclusions based on that, but I’m going to watch what happens closely and go from there.

Well, it may have "cooled down" but it's still sweltering hot. My clothes were so wet with sweat that they were clinging to me. Ugh. I hate that feeling... I did get some clean up work done in the garden tonight. All my squash, except for 1 plant, was killed by squash bugs. I cleaned out all the debris and killed 100 bugs, I swear. Seeded 2 new zucchini plants along with some beans and corn. I've got a good 90-100 days left in the growing season so I should have time to harvest. 🤞

I started a new compost pile in the chicken run. Chickens are loving it. Goats aren't too sure... I took a small watermelon in there that had fallen off the vine. I figured it wasn't ripe because it was small. Smashed it on the ground only to discover it WAS ripe. :th Chickens had a hay day with that.... Oh well. I have one in fridge that I can enjoy. A few more on the vine still too...

I'm still recovering from back-to-back illnesses, so the gardens have been on their own for about a week. I managed to start picking peppers and tomatoes again a couple days ago, but totally overlooked that the second planting of bush beans are covered with beans! They were wilting when I got home from work but I gave them a good soaking. I'll pick in the morning.

It's been hot and humid these last few weeks, with lots of rain, and many weeds are taking over the yard. If I feel up to it tomorrow morning I will take my cordless clippers and try to cut back some of the growth.

Grapevines all over my carpeted area (it's laid down for smothering stumps):

These have been popping up all over my new raised beds, and I was wondering what weed I was fighting. I looked it up this evening...the wisteria that is growing all over the wooded lot next to us is trying to take over my vegetable gardens and backyard. Fight!

I brought tomatoes in to work two days in a row, but still had too many to eat. I gave a few more to the first neighbor I found at home this evening. The one tomato on the table that's getting overripe will be chick snacks.

These are some tomatoes I took to work today:

My garden friend, a skink. He is regrowing a tail, it must have been a close call...

I spent the entire day working outside. I'd work 1.5 -2 hours and then take a break in the AC after changing into dry clothes. Glory, it's gross.

I took apart the hay rack in the barn, swept it out, pulled up the rubber floor, filled in all the giant rodent holes and leveled it for the most part. I replaced the floor and restacked all the hay bales and straw bales, then I opened the hay shed and moved all the remaining 2021 hay bales from the shed and into the barn hay rack. We've got 18 more bales of 2021 hay, so about 15 more weeks of hay before we move on to the 2022 stuff, of which we have about 50 bales.

I'll be cutting hay this week as it will be positively roasting and dry with some wind from Sunday until next Saturday. The hayfield is thicker now that it has rained, but it's still very short, only about knee high instead of 3-4 feet. Before the rains we expected to get 15 bales out of a 100 bale field. Now maybe 20-25. Place your bets. IF we are lucky, maybe the rains will start again and we'll get a very late second cutting.

I managed another gallon of mixed tomatoes and a cucumber, the whole garden was sprayed for End Rot this morning as well as deep root watered and fed.

Full day. Phew.
