What did you do in the garden today?

I'll need to invest in some cheap labels though next because I normally just write on the lids.

perfect labels! and the green ones are cheaper than the rest right now for some reason, so I'm ordering some.
For cheap labels, I can't beat regular scotch tape. Fold one end under about 1/4" as a pull tab so you can remove it easily. You can write on it with sharpie marker. Not fancy, but cheap and gets the job done.

I got a lot of cardboard ( free from the post office ) laid on top of the walking paths at the church garden and then dumped 8 bags of mulch on top. Not nearly enough mulch. Then headed over to my daughter’s and loaded up more branches and limbs. Had to stop before I got a full trailer load because tonight was the monthly bee club meeting. So I had to hurry home to get a shower before my friend picked me up to go to the meeting. Tonight’s topic was bee pests and diseases.
I also picked some tomatoes and Cheyenne peppers.

The mulch didn’t go far enough. 🤣

I’ll bring out more after I get it chipped up.
Cardboard under mulch is the way to go!

I miss my dad, he passed away last September. :(
I'm so sorry... :hugs but thank you for the support.

I lost my dad on Super Bowl Sunday in 2017 and my step-dad on Christmas day in 2019. Losing them was hard. I guess my mom didn't want to be shown up... I had to make the horrible decision to take her off life support. I refused to do that on my birthday (and in the middle of a prearranged vacation). So I ended up losing her the day AFTER my birthday. It was still like a sucker punch to the gut. I can't wait to finish up cleaning out her house because being there without her is very sad & painful.

Today I picked more tomatoes. This heat has been crazy. My front flower bed has been taken over by tree saplings so I had to trim them up. My husbands and stepson havent seen my trimmings pile yet. I think the heat ruined my elephant ear plant because they never came back after my new york trip a few weeks ago :(

A few weeks ago after searching for some local Silkies, I found a few. Got a few 8 week old babies. Tiny (biggest one and sure lookin like a boy) Miney and Eeny. (my husband named them and was Eeny, Meany and no mo. He laughed and was I already know you are lookin for more.) So we started a schedule to let the babies out each morning.
This is funny! Thirty years ago we got our first chickens, a rooster and three hens. The kids named them Eeny, Meeny, Miney, and Moe.

I pulled 4 buckets of weeds. Either I got a lot of weeding done, or I have a lot of weeds. It's the latter. I dumped them in the chicken run and everyone was having a scratchin' good time.

The weeds are pulling easily, so I plan to keep doing some every day to get caught up. Wasn't I just doing this last week??

I think I have enough ripe tomatoes to can 2-3 quarts. I have to check the other garden; I might have more. Right now, I'm just getting one here, one there, and on all different plants. I want to get enough of one variety to can it, write down what kind it is, and then try it as spaghetti sauce in a few weeks. That will help me decide what kinds to grow again next year.

It was the familiar smell that got me when cleaning out my mom's things. And my dad's. Scent triggers memories.

Emojis are inadequate, but...

My mom was an organized hoarder. What a mess my sister had to deal with.
I'm beginning to suspect the same about my mom... It's crazy the stuff I'm discovering that I had no idea she had. I can only imagine she had a lot of intentions that she simply didn't have the health to carry out.

It will be even worse with my mother-in-law. She is an acknowledged organized hoarder and compulsive buyer. God help us the day/month/year we will have to go through her place. I will need to take a sabbatical to tackle that one.
