What did you do in the garden today?

Pic 1 branched coneflower, squash-gourd. pic 3 pumpkin and last pic is a oddity a pokeweed of unusual color.

Just back from State Fair. It was 78' today, and we just couldn't pass that up.
Now I remember why I go on a Tuesday morning. TOO many people, too many kids running around like it was a zoo. Fun though.
Canned goods did well.
I'm still trying to figure out the pickles. I was the only one with aligned lids, matching lids, proper headspace, and a packed full jar. AND I had great presentation with aligned and blemish free ingredients. Taste is subjective, so I can't comment on that bit, but everyone here loves them. OH well. Next year, maybe.

It might be a bit tough but it should be okay. Let everyone know how it goes. I had a really woody squash last year so instead of tossing it out I cut what I could and put some BBQ rub on it with some garlic salt Montreal steak spice and grilled it. My oldest granddaughter ate ALL OF IT.

I was going to try to make the squash fries but is the squash supposed to be hard to cut? I was expecting it to be more like the firmness of zucchini instead it’s closer to that of a pum

It should be okay. I had a squash last year be woody but I still cooked most of it on the grill. You can still try squash fries, however if it proves to be too tough just grill it. I used a mix of garlic salt Montreal steak spice and olive oil. I don't know how good it was because my granddaughter ate all of it.

Ahha. I lost points due to the fact that my lid is a no brand lid (golden harvest) (flat and matching ring) and it's Golden Harvest Jar. But golden harvest lids do NOT say golden harvest on them this year, they are blank, just golden.
Oh well.
 
Thats too much work for me, I'd rather use earth boxes.

Well, I enjoy making stuff out of pallet wood. Plus, I save lots of money using pallet wood instead of buying lumber from the big box stores. Over the years, I have a nice collection of power tools which makes the job a lot easier than what you may think. It is great to take out all the toys and make something that has value to us.

Just today Dear Wife was outside and collected a couple buckets of produce from the raised beds. She is very happy with all the stuff we had growing this year. She even gave some bitter melons to a friend of hers because their plants died. We have more than enough for ourselves. She was happy to share.

:caf I am sure that Earth Boxes are easy to work with and you also get great results. But I did a quick look online and see that an Earth Box is approximately 1X2 feet.

It would take 8 Earth Boxes to fill a 4X4 foot raised bed. At $60 each, 8 Earth Boxes would come out to $480 dollars. So, I will continue to make my pallet wood 4X4 raised beds with free wood and maybe a dollar or two in screws and nails. I have more free time than free money these days.

Picked like a bajillion cherry tomatoes and a few bell peppers, as well as some purple basil

I learned how to freeze cherry tomatoes this year. So, I have been bagging up lots of our excess cherry tomatoes and putting them in the big freezer out in the garage.

What are you planning on doing with your bajillion cherry tomatoes? I'm only about halfway through my cherry tomatoes so any ideas are most welcome. Thanks.
