What did you do in the garden today?

What about draping a white sheet over the affected plants? I don't have a way of suspending any kind of cover over the plants, but maybe a lightweight sheet would help?

Trying to think ahead for next year. Too late for this season's crop. Good thing I planted so many plants...
That should work, anything to give a little shade during the hottest part of the day.

G’morning gardeners. One more brutal day of heat and then we cool down for the long weekend. The kids are getting outside to pull weeds and straighten up some, that’s all for me in the garden for now. Might get hubs to start taking apart the old garden so I can get the ground leveled for the raised beds too. Whether any more than that gets done soon depends on the heat. I’ve had heat exhaustion a few times and the more it happens, the easier it gets it seems. Trying to be careful with that, it’s not a great feeling.

I have a tomato problem that I haven't found an answer for online. My tomatoes are rotting AT THE TOP, by the stem. A lot of them have "green shoulder" which is actually yellow, in this case. I understand that can be from a lack of foliage coverage, aka, sunscald.

But why do so many of them start to rot there? The rest of the tomato isn't even fully ripe yet!

I have seen similar damage caused by sun scald. It happens no matter the degree of ripeness.

I have some old window screen I will use to shade clusters of tomatoes during the heat of summer. This will allow them to get ripe before they burn. I only shade fruit that does not have enough foliage cover. The screen makes the sun less harsh but still let's light through.

If you zoom in you can see it on these 2 plants.
@Sally PB
When I quoted this post this morning I realized I mistakenly gave it a laughing emoji. I was responding on my phone and made a goof. I apologize as sunscald is an aggravating thing and not funny.

:confused: :lau Maybe I'm wrong, but I though Hobby Lobby was more of an arts and crafts type of store. Not my interests, for the most part. I'm more into the tool stores.
Yes it is; my DH is into building models so we go there from time to time. However, they have a lot of house decor too. Cute stuff that all the ladies love. I got a couple of signs for my kitchen, I love to decorate with them because they go on the wall and I don’t have to move anything when I dust.

Well, you'd need to make sure the plants still get sunlight. So a shade cloth would be better, which would allow some sun and allow air flow.

And shade cloth comes in varying levels of shade provided, and different colors. Plus, it won’t hold water like cloth.
