What did you do in the garden today?

all i did in garden today was harvest some more fennel seeds 😁
I just looked at my garden today. A couple of tomato plants are starting to turn yellow, so I'll need to pluck those out. Still haven't figure out where I'm going to move the artichokes I planted this spring. Might leave one in the garden, but three is too many.

Went out to the garden and picked 2 cherry tomatoes then of course I had to give them to the granddaughter. She helped me do a little decorating for Halloween. I have peas coming up and I plan on getting carrots and all of the rest of my fall veggies planted. I'm kinda debating about where to plant them because I have cats (yuck). I also live in an area where the water doesn't drain for a while. I know I have plenty of pots for them just not enough dirt.
I use netting or fence sections over freshly-planted veggies to keep cats (and squirrels) from digging.

what kind of artichokes? I planted 25 jerusalem artichokes in my side yard this year, and right now it is a massive jungle with beautiful yellow flowers blooming like crazy!

Anyone have a suggestion for low cost plant labels that won't fade out before the end of the summer?

I was using a Sharpie to write labels on popsicle sticks, but they wash out or fade away in no time. Are the UV "garden markers" on Amazon any better? Like these...

Another option I was considering was using my P-Touch label maker to print out labels and stick them on something. I tried one P-Touch label on a popsicle stick, but it did not adhere very well. I think it would fall off in the first rain.

I had an old vinyl blind that I cut up into many plant label sized pieces. The sharpie marker on the vinyl fades too fast. I put those plastic vinyl labels away, but I'm going to dig them out and see how well the P-Touch label adheres to the plastic.

But I am open to any low cost idea. Thanks.
I saw someone cut aluminum cans into labels. You use a ballpoint pen or something similar to write the name on the label, and it's like engraving. I can't find the original video I recall, but this one is good:

This shows how to make plant labels from an aluminium drink can. Then by writing on them using a biro (working or not), while leaning on hard cardboard, an impression is made. Writing backwards on the printed side leaves a raised impression, or writing normally on the clear side leaves a sunken imprint, but I think it is less effective. A permanent marker pen could be used. Bending the finished label to a concave profile lengthways makes it more rigid for inserting into pots or the ground.
The label can also be used with a tie after making a hole with a puncher.

that would scare the crap out of me because what if my ducks or geese found one and ate it ? I hate small metal objects

I thought the same thing, but it's kind of a pain to pick and taste is not as good as Sun Gold or Brad's Atomic Grape in my opinion. I'd rather use the space for something else.
For me it's about speed because I tried doing a more standard tomato variety in kratky last year and while it handled the heat. I chopped too much and the roots were insane and it just drank 200Ls up without the fruit ever going red. I'll look for those varieties then, seems to be available down under.
How long has it been since they were there?
Well, my brother and his ex had some isa browns there for at least 5 years? But he made the coop kinda like a dog kennel so you had to crawl in .... (are we allowed to say naughty words on this forum?) just to get the eggs. They planted a lime/lemon/olive trees down there that have never fruited/flowered until I sprinkled some seamungus, blood&bone and some slow release powerfeed flower and citrus fertilizer. I was going to get a sack of potash from the ag store but we will see.

Really want to get some seedlings out today. Plan on tackling the squash, zucchini and rock melon first and try to give the rock melon some room away from the others to do its thing. With the tomatoes, I'm not sure if I want to do 3 or 2 rows in the garden bed as this particular bed is very wide 1.5m. Maybe some sunflowers.
