It should thrive in that kind of system! I need to get around to mixing another brick of coco so I can place it in the 200L drum I have reserved for the Kankong. I may even put the spinach in there and other things. I really want to pack it LOL.I found some seed so I’m going to try it. Mild tasting greens are key with some of the family members, ie the kids. I’ll give it a try in the shade garden, we’re setting up a small DWC system out there.
You had me at onion rings. Looks like I got most of the herbs for Baharat. Will be fun to try that as a dish. I hope the Egyptian Spinach works out, I'll throw that in with the Kankong on kratky to ensure I have enough for a heap. Lately I have been slacking big time on sides and just eating meat. You should put the spinach (molokhiya) in your soups or cook it like that (recipe):
1) Fry onion rings with some olive oil until transparent.
2) throw molukhiya inside.
3) lower the fire.
4) add half cup water.
5) when the leaves change colour and there’s is not much water left, add some lemon juice (as much as you like) and salt.
6) cook for two minutes then add Baharat. A lot of baharat!
7) turn the fire off, taste and see if more salt, lemon or baharat is needed.
8) pour some olive oil (Syrian in best) on top.
9) serve
Well so far good. Sealed a wide mouth that has dry soup mix I made and 2 regular lids on half pint jars with squash seeds. I went with a recommended one as some brands are not as good. I need to put seasonings that draw moisture and get hard into jars. Salt and Famous Dave's are 2.And....? Care to give us a review?
What is it used for?A side by side comparison of the new jar and previously made bottle of black walnut tincture.
Thanks!! I cut 2 off & then left some others on just to experiment. How should I dry them inside? In the dark? Should I rotate them every day? When it gets softer, the sponge is sponging. So you can either wait for it to dry or you can just harvest it already and dry it inside, depending on your weather
If they don’t smell bad and don’t taste bitter you should be good. Also not moldy or mushyOK, I cracked open one of the black walnuts that was in the drying crate.
For background clarity :
My step-dad passed away on 12/25/2019. He would collect black walnuts from a giant tree in their yard and put them in a 4 ft x 4 ft crate. This crate is sitting in his shop and has been untouched since he died. He processed tons of them with his 'Grandpa's Goody Getter' and would freeze them.
I wasn't sure if the nuts would still be good. Someone on here mentioned they were only good for 2 yrs. These nuts were likely collected in the fall of 2019.

They crumble rather easily when you try to remove them from the shell. However I did try a few chunks and they tasted like normal black walnuts. Not bitter or anything...
Would you say they are still good?
I gave my flock a pumpkin the other day, they went to town. Wild birds came in later to almost finish it off.I would think if nuts were bad they would taste rancid. But I really have no clue.
Beautiful out there today. Frost for last night is now supposed to be tonight. I brought in a couple plants & covered the greenstalk. Picked all the sungolds that had at least a little blush on them.
Gave the girls a pumpkin.
