What did you do in the garden today?

Yeah, I really believe in safety first because a stupid accident can lead to a big medical bill or worse. Those safety rulers look like a good idea if you have your fingers anywhere near a utility knife razor blade.

When I used a utility knife to cut cardboard, my second hand was nowhere near the cutting blade. I would also have a scrap piece of plywood that I would cut stuff up on for better control.

Having said that, the power cutters are just so much better, easier, and safer to use. Plus, I can just leave the power cutters in the house and take them out of the drawer when I need them. I don't have to take our cardboard boxes out to the garage before I can process them into strips for feeding into the paper shredder.

All our Amazon and QVC boxes are cut up and shredded in the house without having to move them back out to the garage and storing them there until I get around to processing them.

:yesss: You know, a big shout out to the companies like Amazon and QVC that are now shipping products in cardboard boxes that are 100% recyclable, with compostable paper labels and tape instead of plastics. Takes me almost no time to cut those cardboard boxes into strips with my power cutter and feed them into the paper shredder. Makes wonderful chicken coop litter and later gets composted out in the chicken run.
I use my Amazon and Chewy boxes in the garden for weed control. 😁 After a season, the decayed remains either get tilled in or finish decaying in the compost.

I just fired the printer I have used for a decade.
I hand paint my holiday cards and get them printed and cut them to size at home, but I buy the prints on cardstock and the standard envelopes from this mom and pop printer locally.
I emailed the print to the shop, and drove over to place my order.
20 A6 prints, and 20 envelopes.
I told her that IF she had to adjust the size to take it off one side and corner. Sometimes my email sends them at full page size and not smaller than half.
I was going to cut them to size, and use them as just postcard like cards and not folded, so if she wanted to put two on a page, great, otherwise I would take care of it at home.
I picked them up today.
The bill floored me. $63. OMG WTH???
They charged me to fit 4 of them on an 11x17 page, charge me to cut them, charged me to do the layout. HOLY HELL! at 3$ a card I could get 20 HALLMARK indiviual cards or 5 BOXES of high end holiday cards.
I've NEVER paid more than 25$ for this to be done. NEVER before have they charged me for fitting things to pages.
I told her it was my last order.
That while I SHOULD have been MORE specific, although I DO NOT know how I could have been.
THEY should have provided an estimate upon order, I SHOULD have asked for one, but since I've done this for 9 years, I thought I knew what to expect.
I also told her that any reasonable person in the shop would have said 'whoa, this is going to cost a LOT, Maybe I should run this by her and give her a quick call to check before I hit print.'

This is a tiny shop, in a tiny village, not something that does huge expensive orders or has customers that come in and SPEND $3 for each card!

OK rant over. Thank you for your time. Phew. I feel better.

I was gifted 52 ears of corn on the cob. I gifted 16 of those to a friend. I want to get the kernels off the coc and can them. Does anybody have any great DIY tricks to get the kernels off the cob quickly ?
Juxtaposition!!! :lol::lol::lol:

I worked for a Mom & Pop printing business 40 years ago. We never would have run an order without having a proof signed by the customer. There was always a chance that people would change their minds, and having the customer proofread and approve saved us $$$.

My side rant.... My girls have gone on an egg strike, I think! :rant I've had chickens for a long time. I don't use supplemental lighting. I KNOW they slow down production in the late fall and winter... I have probably a dozen different breeds of poultry, including high producing layers like Leghorns, RIR, Australorps, and Orpingtons. They usually do fairly well through this time of year. I have over 60+ hens, I think.... And I've averaged about 5 to 6 eggs per day for the last 2 weeks. This is down from an average of 8 to 10 eggs per day for at least 2 to 3 weeks prior to that... I have no idea why the girls have suddenly decided to go on strike. They get PLENTY of food, free ranging, and protein options. They are not stressed that I can see. Plenty of space, etc. I do have a couple who are molting but less than 5, I think. I also have maybe 10 - 12 chickens who are older (3+ yrs) and typically lay once or twice per week, if at all. But come on! Lazy biddies... :old

EXACTLY. I dropped of the order late monday afternoon.
I USED to get a proof and a quote via text or email. NOPE, this afternoon I got a text that said ready for pickup.
