What did you do in the garden today?

Went to TSC for stra for nest boxes; came home with that plus three bags of feed because it’s $6 less each there, a salvia plant that would probably be about $10 more at Home Depot or Lowes, although I’m not very impressed with their garden center tbh, and some treats for the chickens.

I do if it's still available.
Pm me your address & I'll get them out tomorrow.
I wrap carrots in kitchen towel and they last longer in fridge.
I wrap mine in tin foil, same with celery. More tender things I wrap in paper towels & put in an unsealed ziplock.

I take the zone changes with a grain of salt. They have never meant much to me as I live in a weird microclimate up on a hill anyway. I get 4 inches of snow here, drive a mile down the road into town and they have nothing. I get a hard freeze and in town all is still growing fine. I think everyone needs to know their own climate & take the usda guide as a generalization. But I do agree that over the years (more than I've been at this house, I'm thinking from when I was little) its trended warmer with less snow.

I bought some close-out end of season plants at TSC last spring. NONE of them survived. Won't make that mistake again.
I don't buy any end of season plants at TSC from DeGroot. I've bought DeGroot starts in early spring with no issue but everything DeGroot that I've bought from summer through fall has always died or been DOA.

I cleaned out the cleanout area under the roost today and flipped a huge compost pile. Whew! I am going down hill from there. Picked some daikon radish, bok choy, mustards collard and turnips. I am going to turn green if I keep eating so much of them! Made eggrolls and wonton soup for lunch. Now for a nap and we'll see about the chickens food and water later.

Oh yeah. My two gardens are different. The one on the hill gets more sun and hotter. The one down the hill will get frost earlier in the fall and later in the spring.

They are about 100-150 feet apart, east-to-west, and 100 feet different in elevation.

I picked a bunch of Rattlesnake green beans and Cherokee wax beans, a few tomatoes, three eggplants, some broccoli shoots, and jalapenos. Pretty happy with today's harvest!
