What did you do in the garden today?

Need to venture out & try a new slicing tomato. The only one I eat is Brandywine, but I want to try something new. Anyone see anything I should try on the list?

I really like black krim. I'm growing the yellow Brandywine this year as well. Cherokee purple is good. It really depends on the acid level you want, and your climate/soil/pest/disease pressure though. I'd pick based on those things.

I knew nothing really, about privet. I now know a little about the green evil you speak about.

Article speaking about privet. Pretty sure photos are in order.

Roma is a plum tomato, but my dh slices them for his sandwiches.

German Johnson is also good, but it's not on the list.

Celebrity is also resistant to a blight I get.
Early girl is good because it's well early 😂
San Mariano is probably the best for canning. Not usually for slicing since it's long not round. It's a Roma type which doesn't have much juice .

I moved my pepper plants to the front window too. Now all my bok choi and other seedlings fit under the grow lights. And I need to put a bunch of sage and rosemary seeds in dirt today. Hopefully some will sprout.

I'll crack the windows and wrap the curtains around all the plants at night. That should get them cool enough so it will get them hardened off to chilly nights outdoors.

The garlic I planted last year is rotted. 😤 This is the second year in a row; it grows fine when I plant it, then when everything thaws it dies. Might have to try it indoors this year…Some of the onions look like they survived. Maybe I’ll get seeds off of those.

Beyond that I put together some new garden planters and planted my peas, hopefully I will get the potatoes in tomorrow. I also went to a farm and garden thing and brought home a little hazelnut sapling I have no place to put. Is plant math a thing? Usually I just have the herbs multiplying exponentially out of control, not a tree. Oh well I guess before I can get the problem that it’s too big for a pot I have to manage to not kill it.

What zone or region are you in?

The littles are off the front porch and in the grow out pen. Yay! They’re enjoying the run but I haven’t seen them go inside the mini coop. I’m sure they’ll get there. I did manage to get a little weeding done in the asparagus and one of the tomato beds. Lots of cleaning to catch up on. Grandkids will be here tomorrow early to help with the garden.
