What did you do in the garden today?

Found out my chicks love mustard greens so much they will fight over it!
Had saved this and put in pot so I could harvest seeds but worms took over! Chicks got a 2fer today!

Before we finished the coop we transported the chick in wheelbarrow. I had to bring in an old one to replace my new one we had been using! I put them in it as I was taking pic and took off top to them then go, and they wouldn’t get out till dd gave them a ride around run! Not spoiled at all lol

I planted oaxaca corn (about 40) in a sunken bed and "naked green seed" squash/pumpkin around. I could not find the name in english. so 2 sisters are in.

also transplanted a red current. unfortunately black current died.

I wish I could do more gardening but chicks have hatched, now 1 turkey poult is in the bator, 2 moving but didn't pip. some duck and geese eggs should hatch around this weekend.

Oh ya, Alaska fish fertilizer is amazing stuff! (since I don't, knock wood, have fish falling from the sky here)

Found the 'leaks'. I missed putting the end caps on two of the main lines. HA!

4 trays of finely diced onion now in the freeze dryer -1 tray is a sweet onion
and one tray of Mexican sweet corn kernels
I used to love fish fertilizer until racoons fall in love with it too recently. They dug everything out including my young pear trees to looking for fish!

I feel your pain. last year my dogs destroyed a lot of my tomatoes to get unhatched eggs I buried under them. this year I will bury only whole eggs as they don't stink and dogs don't smell them.

I had some hydro stuff that was a powder added to potting soil for water retention. Every pot I put that in was dug up by the raccoons.

We got an inch of rain or more overnight. I think it’s over for a few days. I planted the butternut squash and sugar baby watermelons before breakfast. I planted 5 of the basil plants DD picked up for me then planted an 8 foot row of carrots and picked a few more radishes. It was only 65F but the sun was very intense it felt likeit was 90F.

I started soaking some Danver's half long carrot seeds in water this morning and will plant them in a few days using the cornstarch gel planting method.

Also...

Plucked the lower suckers off of the tomato plants. A couple are starting to create blossom buds. All seem to be doing well in spite of the cool weather.

Replanted two hills of poorly looking squash seedlings (one each, zuke and b'nut). The seedlings in the other five hills look strong and vibrant. I pulled out a few of the smaller squash seedlings.

The second year curly parsley plant is growing like crazy in advance of creating its pollinator-attracting little flowers. It's growing in the perfect location, right next to a t-post. Last year's parsley plant that went to seed got huge and needed some support to keep it standing.

The collards, bok choi and cauliflower starts I planted last week are looking good underneath the floating row cover. I never added supports to keep the row cover off of the plants- it's laying directly on top of them and doesn't seem to be impeding their growth. I'll keep them covered until I think they're tough enough to keep the cutworms at bay.

My garlic plants are starting to put out their scapes. Looking forward to cooking scapes in my scrambled eggs one of these days.

Most of the pea vines have found the trellis. Poppy plants are expanding in size. Tater vines are looking great, though the leaves on a couple of plants are being chewed on by something, but not enough for me to intervene.

Last year and this year, I put crawfish shells I saved from a boil under my tomatoes. I've never grown such huge tomatoes in my life...
