What did you do in the garden today?

To be a bit more thorough on my response to the dehydration, if you go outside and sweat you need to replace not just your water however it's also important to replace your salt. My stomach was cramping like way out of the normal. At the time I was going through menopause so it wasn't that. I called my mom and she wasn't home so I talked to my dad and he told me you need salt and since we can't drink salt water he said buy a bag of chips, the saltier the better. Eat the chips and drink water. That took me about 2 hours to call my mom back and tell my dad thank you for the awesome advice.

I think it is the salt! I'm not a chip person but crave chips after outside working. Especially dill pickle chips!??
Yes, love pickles, I'm known to drink some pickling juice right from the jar at times. DH had the funniest expression on his face when he rounded the corner to see me chugging down salty, dill, with some garlic pickle juice, olive or sauerkraut juice the 1st few times he caught me. 🤣 Most crave sweets & chocolates. I love fruit, I like a bit of chocolate, but pickles, green olives, sauerkraut & cajun boiled peanuts are King.

All the severe storms forecasted to roll through and we didn't get a drop of rain here yesterday! 6am I watered the garden & gave my flock all fresh waters for the day. Why is it So bloody hot & humid? We went from Temps in the 40s in May & needing to wear layers, to sweating, drenched & wheezing within 5 minutes of being outside, practically overnight. 1st days of June used to be cold. Not this year. The air quality is still horrible this morning, Choking, wheezing, coughing, itching & sweating, but the hives are gone thank goodness. My sense of smell is so acute & I can practically taste chemicals in the air & it is so still outside, not even a slight breeze. I'm still red & puffy faced but I am going to work today regardless of how I feel. Supposed to get more storms roll through today. I just hope there aren't any tornadoes, for any of us. TGIF everyone! 🌼 🌸 🌻 🌹

Young pullets are growing up fast. ❤️

After marathon pickling yesterday, I was supposed to mow, weed and weed eat since a break in rain. Not sure if I slipped a lil yesterday in garden but my bad knee woke me throbbing- on other side that usually hurts! 😑
The worms have returned but chickens are loving them!
sunflowers are so - joyful!
My family wants me to ask you if it’s normal for chickens to roost facing wall. I think it might come from the brooder box they stay in first 6/7 weeks of life. And they are molting again! Thought something had attacked them bc all feathers!

I had some HUGE stalks in one of my rhubarb plants and used those for jam. Hubby likes the jam, so this is a BIG win.

How do you care for rhubarb? What kind of fertilizer/food does it like? I have one huge plant (start from a neighbor) and two much smaller plants (purchased crowns in 2022). If the small ones looked as good as the big one... ooo baby, would I have some rhubarb!
I don't do much to my rhubarb, they're very easy going. When I planted I dug a huge hole & filled with compost. I only really watered the first year, unless it's super dry. They don't like to be too wet, they'll rot. They do good in raised beds (@Acre4Me has hers in raised beds). They get a fresh layer of compost on top every year. Pull any flower stalks as soon as they come up. Don't take more than a 1/3 at a time & I harvest a 2nd time later in the year.

What kind of jam did you make? I'm a huge fan of strawberry rhubarb - my fave. I did a bluebarb (blueberry/rhubarb) last year & it's good, just not as good as the strawberry!
