Usually they are ready to pick when the silk starts to turn brown on the ends. You can pull back a little of the husk and see what the kernels look like. If they’re at the size to eat then they’re ready. If the kernels are very small you can put the husks back in place and give the corn more time to finish growing.I watered the garden but that was about it. I think I will pick my cherry tomatoes in another couple of days. Does anyone know how to tell if corn can be picked. I have a big bunch of it growing
What @Wee Farmer Sarah said above. As ears got older, my mom would stab one with her fingernail. If it was still juicy, it was good for corn on the cob. If it didn't squirt, it was cooked, cut off, and frozen. If it was solid, it was too old and tossed out.Does anyone know how to tell if corn can be picked. I have a big bunch of it growing.
On the baker thread, @jnicholes has detailed how to bake with charcoal and even has a formula to figure out how many briquettes. He won first place in a charcoal baking contest at his local fair. With a cheesecake, no less!I am considering getting a smaller one with a lower profile to make bread outside on the charcoal grill

It does seem like rain makes things grow faster. I second drying them. Then sprinkle on some chili powderGood morning gardeners. We ended up getting a little over 1 inch of rain last night. Everything grew a little more overnight. I need to do a lot more weed whacking. I checked a pod of pinto beans and it’s still thin but there are 5 to 6 beans developing inside the pod. I’m really hoping for a good harvest on all my bean plantings. As for the enameled cast iron dutch oven, I use mine for making stews, soups and beans. I am considering getting a smaller one with a lower profile to make bread outside on the charcoal grill. However, I think I will go with non enamel for that. That’s a lot of mangoes @cj2024. Can you dehydrate them? I know they do freeze fairly well but drying them would save space.

Thank you again for the information regarding the bakers thread. However, I have mentioned this before, I have looked into the baking thread and it’s just not to my liking. I bake because I enjoy it and because I work at clean eating as much as possible. Making food to consume myself to stay as healthy as possible. I’m not a competitive person and I don’t need constant reassurances that I am a good cook. And quite frankly, despite being retired I don’t have that much free time to be on social media all day long. But thank you again for the referral. What @Wee Farmer Sarah said above. I changed out some of my electric receptacles in my kitchen, they were the wrong depth & I was about to install tile backsplash...I shut the main off for the Whole House while I did it.We're redoing our bathroom. For our current sink, we eventually just took out the stopper, because it didn't work. Do you have a link/picture of these? I'm not sure what you're talking about, and I really want this project to be a success. In all parts.
I know, I'm asking a lot for everything to go right in this venture.
I'm also sure I'm in for huge sticker shock at the final bill. Especially when hubby has changed his mind about a few things and we'll need an electrician and a plumber to do some work. They aren't cheap.
I don't begrudge them what they make, either! Plumbing... ewww. Electricity... dangerous.
