A million baby spiders have hatched out in my wood shop. OMG webs are EVERYWHERE....It's like the enchanted forest at Hogwarts!
"I just want to trim this 2x4 and I'll leave." Backs away slowly.

I can't walk anywhere in back yard without walking through a spider web!! Jeez they're everywhere this year, but hardly any flies on a good note.

I had to spray Sevin again…the stupid JBs are attacking the fruit trees again. AND attacking the sweet potatoes….and the green beans. I sprayed the trees and the sweet potatoes, but not the green beans. I was hoping JB season was done, but not quite yet. They really love plum trees, which is why I’ve been spraying bc they have stunted the tree despite all my non-chemical approaches for 3 years.


We ripped out the Lentils. I’m stumped - can’t quite find success with those. Removed a bed of old strawberry plants. Ripped out the melon bed bc they were all dying. Ripped out the bed of weeds, which had taken over after all the spring stuff died off. So now we have a few beds for fall planting.

One bed was seeded with cucumbers..hoping to get some more, bc we’ve gotten around 10 among 6 varieties planted earlier.

Another section was planted with summer squash…might be able to get some before the cold hits.

The rest will get brassicas, beets, mustard, peas, anything else I can think of.

Now I’ve got a few things I’ll need to can: potatoes, and spicy dilly beans to start the canning season!

Michigan has:
--heavy snows and cold winters, some years worse than others
--Earthquakes that make the news because, Oh wow! Did you feel that? No? That was an earthquake! Really! Here in Michigan!
--We can get tornados and straight line winds
--Any place can get a fire, and we have had some, mostly in the UP where they have more forests
--Our "really hot days" can be 90-95, but we rarely ever hit 100. Humidity, yeah, but not like the south.

Not sure I could sell it to anyone. We've got all that plus the 3rd highest property taxes, or is it the second, in the country.

I spent an hour tying up my neglected tomatoes. They've set some good fruit now that we are hotter than Hades day and night. Usually I'm pulling in 20 pounds a day by this time of year. Tonight, I brought in about three pounds worth, all not quite ripe.
And I've now pulled out 5 plants due to a mystery something from the wet, "cool" spring.
Oh well.
As they ripen I'll freeze dry them. Then powder them.

Picked one ear of corn and dug some potatoes. Corn is good but there won't be much of it. First time growing corn. Picked some asparagus beans for the rabbits. Happy time of year!!

My brother lives on the south side of Omaha. He says it's better than Illinois. Lower humidity and less allergies. Lower taxes than Illinois. Although the license plates are higher because based on vehicles value? I pay about $150 for pickup plates.

Funny story... The other morning I was chasing my ducks who ran around the back side of their coop. I noticed a big ol spider web between the coop and the fence so I halted with a big NOPE... A few days later, DH came in swearing to the rooftop. He had just come back from putting the ducks in the coop for night. One of the hens decided to be stubborn and ran behind the coop instead of going inside. DH pursued her and ran smack face first into that giant spider web.... I could ALMOST hear the hens high fiving each other. I felt it was prudent to NOT ask DH if he screamed like a girl afterwards...

I picked green beans, cauliflower and carrots this morning. Ate them raw as a healthy side dish with the pizzas, brownies, cookies and cheese/caramel popcorn for lunch with the grandkids, son and his wife. Picked some kale and collards and gave them to the neighbor.

yep, and local road tax is added in based on county.
It's not lower humidity. South of Omaha it might be, but out in corn country it's ridiculous. Our dewpoint, right now, at 922pm is 79'F. It's 87 and foggy out at the moment at my place.
And the allergies are just as high, just different allergies.
