What did you do in the garden today?

I don't like feeling greasy, oily, sticky or just gunky. Most bug repellents unfortunately are that way on our skin. I might try taking some Lavender & Mint, make a lotion or like a strong tea & try putting that on, see what it does. I do not seem to a mosquito magnet, a few may bite me when I'm still out there at dusk. Those little biting gnats sized bugs get me & the flies that resemble a regular fly, except they bite, they get me. Also, the occasional fire ant. I do use a Lavender moisturizer but I think I want to try & make it stronger. Anyone try doing that?

Well I did a web search...wow, can try Basil too.

I harvested the pumpkins

I've tried lots of different essential oils and nothing is working this year... Normally I don't personally have too much trouble with mosquitoes. This year they are vicious... The only thing that semi-reliably works is commercial insect repellent which I don't like to use. Who wants to spray known poison on their body? Nuts...
Eat some garlic. String some around your neck. Better yet, spray your yard with concentrated garlic juice. I swear it works.

I saw a couple kale leaves that were curled up a little and found a small patch of aphids on them. Looking more I found aphids on a collard leaf. I plucked them and fed them to the chickens.

I'm going to pick the last of the kale and collards tomorrow morning and give the plants to the chickens to finish off. It's probably a good idea to remove the aphids' food source now while the infestation is just beginning.

They could yes.
Was going to guess...It sounds like if somebody loses their temper or gets too crazy, they can yank & pull the culprit off of the victim, like it's a leash. 😆 🤣 😂
HUGE storm blew through here SLOWLY, it took an HOUR.
It was incredible.
It started with it kicking up dust like the 30s dust bowl, then came the 70+ mph winds, 80 just down the road from me. It hit the city hard and toppled a ridiculous number of those poorly trimmed, top heavy city trees. 30,000 ppl are without power ATM. And all 44 pumps that supply water to Lincoln are without power.
In OMaha, 220,000 ppl are without power.

We have power and water :) I maintain this place for high winds. We had one branch in a paper birch tree that was in the wind tunnel area by the edge of the shop. The winds there can go over 100.

Drop or two of dawn in a spray bottle with water kills our aphids dead.
