What did you do in the garden today?

I need a good stick blender. I've been shopping for one for a while now but can't decide. What one do you have and what do you dislike and like about it?

Oster is the best IMO. My kid got mine at Target I think.

End of summer, back to school blues. Mom and I got them this time of year when we'd see just a tinge of color starting on the trees.

Dang, that was 45-50 years ago.

As a kid I’d get the blues. As a mom and especially as a grandmother, I smiled lol.

Good morning gardeners. Yesterday I had a medical appointment and other errand to run. I did pick a chocolate cherry tomato and 3 grape tomatoes. I’m sitting with the littles now then will be planting kale, carrots and lettuce. I hope to get the collards planted tomorrow. Today is laundry day and after breakfast I can put the boards on the littles coop expansion. They’re 5 months old now so will start laying soon. My hanging strawberry plants have a lot of berries now. Amazon had some planters on sale so I bought more hanging grow bags and a mini version of a greenstalk. I’m going to work on more vertical planting containers.

Still waiting for my first green beans, since I planted them in mid/late-July. The June planting was eaten by critters.

One snake bean finally ripened . The ants were interested so I picked it.
The flesh inside reminds me of spaghetti squash but with little to no taste.
The red pods contain the seeds and have a sweet taste! The person who said inside tastes like tomato paste must have a different variety or let it ripen longer. Idk.

One hen used the box!

Today DS and I will plant beets and carrots.

Most of the seeds have sprouted. Aside from the tray of broccoli and cauliflower. One cell of seventy two has sprouted all three seeds in the cell. It appears that one more cell is starting to show activity, so there's hope yet.

There's one group of romaine cells that hasn't sprouted anything, these are mostly from the seeds that got cooked in the mailbox back in July. So, we'll see what happens over the rest of the week.

Tarragon hasn't done anything but those seeds are so tiny and they're probably 10 years old at this point so it was a crapshoot to begin with. I found a small stash of seeds in the lean-to that had been forgotten about. Dating pre-binder storage so they have seen many seasons in poor storage conditions.

I have had hardneck garlic in the fridge for a few weeks, cold stratifying. It will come out when I plant the rest of the garlic in October. I've read a ton about leaving garlic in the fridge for this and leaving it in longer is better apparently. This is my first time forcing a hardneck type. I've always grown softneck and silverskin types. I will be planting out plenty more of those but I want to experience scapes!

I will be ripping out the chard today and transplanting it over by the chicken coop. I'm going to make a little cover for it so they can't murder it. They murdered the mint I planted. Pecked it to death.

I may have planted my pumpkins too early. Have several that are already big..but..haven't even started to turn orange. So hopefully they'll be ok by October, but they'll be huge if they keep growing. I did have a couple of big ones year before last when I planted them. I'm beginning to think I just may be able to plant cantaloupe and have them grow.
I've been getting my small tomatoes, now my beef steak tomatoes are getting huge and some getting a hint of red. Yum.
Lots of crookneck squash, one plant. Yum again.

Picked a bunch of tomatoes and made stewed tomatoes. Tomatoes are producing well, but something started eating the tomatoes on one heirloom variety. Looks like peck marks, and I am guessing crows or the turkeys that have been feeding under the bird feeders.

My rattlesnake pole beans did right by me today. I picked roughly five pounds of them, most will be going into the freezer. A handful of bush green beans and a zucchini went in the basket too.

It took me a while to pick them. I try to be gentle and cut each bean off the stem with scissors so I don't damage the smaller beans that remain.
