What did you do in the garden today?

I did indeed sleep well. I was a cranky mess right before bed last night. I took a couch nap so I was not happy when I got woken up to go to bed. 🤣

Today I'm going to finish the compost cube. It's not pretty, but I can't give the stuff in it to the chickens or is stuff the chickens won't eat. Lots of tomato plants, tomatillo plants, weeds they wouldn't eat, that sort of stuff. I'm not throwing anything into the green waste this year except my fruit tree branch cuttings, those will all likely have leaf curl spores so I'm pitching them and their leaves because I didn't do any sprays this year.

I watered in the front yard, but that’s it. Had to get the kid to the ER for possible broken extremity so waiting to hear that she’s ready to come home. Fed the crew and cleaned the duck pool so they’re happy. I might have finally beefed up security around the hidden nest enough to keep the broody duck out and prevent more hidden eggs. Temps are around average so below 110 and the forecast says it’ll stay that for the next week. Still too warm to plant anything. Also, on my drive to/from the hospital I noticed the farm across from the high school didn’t plant corn this year, I’m guessing our temps have been too hot.

Heading for a feels like of almost 118' today and tomorrow. That's a hard, humid, NOPE for me. I'm almost done with outside chores and will retreat inside for the day, unless I'm checking livestock.
Ice all around and a sprinkler for the alpacas.
And of course it's the first full day of the state fair. Love to go, but NOPE.
Going to suck here too... DH and I have to make some repairs to the goat house. I tried to tell him to get up early so it's a reasonable temperature outside when we do it but his lazy butt wouldn't get up. Guess that means I'm going to need another shower when we are done. 🙄

Morning all. Another nice one out there. I will do some work in the garden & clean the coop.

My lettuce, spinach & carrots are starting to come up.

I decided to try a fall (late summer) planting of a bush type cucumber in the greenstalk & it's doing well, already has a decent sized cucumber. I wasn't sure how well it'd do in the GS. Not that I need MORE cucumbers...lol.

Speaking of GS, I got my sister & her husband one as a retirement present, they are totally stoked, they've been wanting one.

My not so little GS cucumber:

I plant all my carrots in mine. No bugs in them at all unlike my unground garden beds and I plant strawberries and herbs in the other one. Really love mine.

I have 9 of them. It's the only reason I can still garden with my back. I really do love them also!

Made a giant batch of tomato soup. I didn't want to can so I'll freeze them. It's really yummy.

Frequent breaks. Story time. On the trip home at a gas stop I got DW's electric scooter - wheelchair out for her. Near the front of the car. I started to get ready to fill up. Put the card in and pulled the card out. Stepped back and into DW. I let out scream. Never expected her to go in that tight space. She could have gone around the island. No car there. That is the first time in my 72 years of life that I ever screamed. She startled me that much.
