What did you do in the garden today?

I took a look at my garden and found that I have some work to do tomorrow. There are a few of the first of the yellow wax beans of the year ready, a couple of zucchinis and tomatoes.

I tried a small jalapeno pepper and it had ZERO heat. Didn't even have much of a jalapeno flavor.

I think you're right. I found Lukes website and it gives a good description of their bluegills.

https://www.lukeslivefish.com/
Luke's has cheaper shipping than where I got my Hybrid Sea Bass and White Nile Tilapias from, and the description says it will be packed in ice and liquid oxygen to beat the summer heat.

I found out that the males are darker, and the black spot is elongated in comparison to the lighter female with a round black dot. I will be able to isolate the biggest female and male for reproduction on a gravel bed.

They kind of remind me of a local saltwater reef fish we call Kupipi that I like to fry.

I am doing an experiment with store bought green onions. I bought 3 bunches of green onion and dried the roots in the shade for a couple of days. I also trimmed the roots before planting them.

This experiment is about spacing. I planted a bunch tightly together in the middle of the pot and in the other two pots I arranged them spaced out. I don't think it will make that much of a difference, unless these roots can multiply. However, the ones planted tightly together in the middle will be easier to cut and use, so I am rooting for it. :wee

I've planted store bought green onions many times... They grow enormous... 😂

It's kind of hard to tell, but those potatoes were cut in half with the flat side in the grease. But if the grease was deep enough, sure, you could fry whole potatoes if you wanted.

never heard of frying potato halves either. good to know. we make french fries only (or at least people I know).

Don't believe everything you read. "Science" often contradicts and reverses it's findings every 5 years, it seems. Maybe because studies don't follow true scientific methods anymore and are often tainted by corporate greed.

agree 100%. for the last 10 years I have been eating what my grandparents used to eat. feel great, no need of doctors.

we had some more rain but hopefully (somewhat lower) heat will be back today. I desperately need the mud to dry. no gardening today.

I decided to plant my root bound potted ginger plant in the ground. That way I won't need to buy anymore ginger from the supermarket and I'll always have them on hand. I started using a lot of green onions and ginger lately.

I tried to grow ginger but no luck. the plant died in heat and drought.

I had some growing in a weed fabric lined laundry basket and at one point they look like they died. However, I think that's how they grow, since the same thing happen in other pots.

It may be a sign to harvest them, but I didn't need any, so I left them alone and latter on new leaves sprouted and grew back.

my dead ginger plant didn't grow any roots. I now stick to what can grow in my climate.

I’ve got ginger growing in a pot but it’s in the climate controlled house, otherwise I don’t think it would have done anything. It also took its sweet time sprouting, if I hadn’t had some temporary volunteer pine seedlings in that pot that I felt sorry for I doubt it would have gotten enough water to grow.

Speaking of pots, everything is finally back outside. My peas look worse for wear between the move and a week of reduced sunlight, and about a third of them don’t look like they’re going to make it. 😮‍💨 I’m tempted to put some arugula in their place but the bugs are still so nasty I might just get an early start on amending that box and leave it until next year. So much insect damage this year, part of me is hoping for a deep, deep winter to kill off all the bugs! 🐛 🐜🪲
