What did you do in the garden today?

Yeah I'm on part of the same land that my great grand parents cleared to farm.
That is cool. Really cool. :)
Cousin had a lot of issues with the realtor just sending people with the keys and not being with them.
Not much of an agent, that's for sure! I'm glad it worked out advantageously for both you and your cousin.

This house sat empty for a year before we bought it. The house next door took months to sell too, when it was on the market 10 years ago. As I said, a small market.

Now places out here are going quickly and for over the listed price because they are on several acres of land.

Weeded between the bok choy, spinach, and choy sum. Some thing is making Swiss cheese out of the leaves, and I think a chicken is getting in the garden and eating the choy sum leaves making them raggedy. :rant I just have caught her in there yet. I had had a frequent flyer escapee, I took away her mileage card. (Clipped her wings). She hasn't gotten out since. Now to catch the other one...except she is a white leghorn and all 5 look the same. The only solution is to clip all their wings. That is a tall order.
When I see any leaves getting holes like Swiss cheese, it is usually from an insect. I've caught some in action, worms, crickets, leaf eater bugs, etc. My chickens aren't as precise, they'll grab, pull, rip a leaf off & scarf it down, leaving either a partial half leaf, a leaf with a chunk gone, or no leaf at all if it was tasty.

Not a fan of orange countertops, but really? That was the sticking point?
Well it was small 2 bedrooms but the realtor claimed that giving a large amount to remodel " and get rid of those countertops" was the only way to sell.
This was 1998 to 2000, I bought it spring 2001.

I still have those countertops 😂 nothing wrong with them except the color. I don't really care. Although that's one of the last colors I would pick.

I've adopted a cat, she is really wimpy for now, just wants to stay in one room & hide, but I bring her outside a bit each day. Hopefully she'll come out of her shell in time.

I wanted her to accompany me collecting eggs but she is not quite ready yet. I may have to carry her to the coop. Definitely keeping on a harness & leash when we venture outside. I know it will just take time for her to realize this is Home. ❤️

I made a lot of spaghetti so there was plenty left over for the flock to enjoy.

I looked over my Roosters, trimmed some spurs before they hinder walking, checked for mites. One Roo hurt his foot somehow, so he is set up in the "hospital" getting TLC while healing. Another Roo, my youngest, seemed depressed & lost some weight, so he is set up inside for now as well. Both Roos were clucking & crowing to eachother & eating well. They enjoyed some garden tomato & Dandelion salad. 😋

Weather...we should have gotten a lot of rain. We got some periodically just on Friday, but not nearly enough. The weeds & grass are less crunchy, less brown patches.

The past few days it's been cloudy & very humid, favorite conditions for bugs that bite, so other than tending to my flock & collecting some tomatoes, okra & basil, the garden has not been a place I wanna hang out in, unless I plan to donate my blood to biting flies & skeeters. Speaking of the little a$$#ole$, this miniscule gnat is biting me right now! !@# 🤬 @$&*
Just sent that little jerk to "the other side" of life.

@Sally PB , I absolutely love the shower walls. Those are gorgeous. My husband and I remodeled our bathroom but just did a drop in 4 piece shower kit. I wanted my kitchen countertops to be a specialty color but my husband waited for me to go to work and then went and bought what I have deemed the ugliest countertops he could find and that was it.😞

I made a quick trip to the hardware store and picked up a 4'x4' section of 1/4" hardware cloth. Tomorrow I'll build a compost sifter so I'll be prepared for amending the raised beds as they empty out.

I'll probably size it to fit on top of one of my large trash cans. That'll make it easy to sift compost from the floors of the enclosed chicken runs.
