What did you do in the garden today?

I am waiting for the temps to rise a bit before going outside to work. I am waiting for the fall rains to start before planting my hollyhock starts. I lost some small ones I planted due to dry conditions while I was gone in August. Three frosty mornings predicted starting Tuesday. The drought made my lilacs loose leaves and now they are trying to leaf out and a few blooms.

heading for the 90s the next several days, still no rain in the 10 day
Shutting down the irrigation systems today though as we might dip low, but the ground is warm enough to support their drying for two weeks on their own.
I'll still have the hoses out for spot watering of grazing land and for wildfire control, if need be. Let's hope it not need be.

Otherwise, just continuing with winterizing and fall cleaning,, weaving and sewing.

I'm waiting for the batteries to charge so that I can finish the mowing. I have found another cushaw that was so buried under the crabgrass that I didn't know it was there. I picked my first pomegranate and it weighs 1.3:78 lbs.

Spent the morning digging up weeds in the area I want to plant hollyhocks. Mostly pokeweed. Only about knee high but already have large roots. Done outside as Asian ladybugs are flying everywhere. Time to spray the outside of the house where they collect. A cool of the morning job.

For those interested the insecticide is cypermethrin and the brand is Viper. Works well on Asin ladybugs boxelder bugs. Pricey for 4 oz at about $23.

Yesterday I saw a squirrel digging in my tote of hollyhock starts. He had a walnut. Turned the dog out and the chase was on. DW is seeing benefits from vitamin B1. It helps so many things. They say every diabetic should take it. Told my diabetic doctor about it and it seems he did not know about the benefits for diabetics. You would think they would teach it.

I was watching something on PBS about Drs not knowing about nutrition and supplements. They claimed the average DR is taught about those for 3 hrs. I guess we need to go to a nutritionist or holistic DR for that advice.

I was going to ask what insecticide you used on the Asian ladybugs. I only see a few here, but back in Kansas they would congregate in the thousands around the house.

But I do have box elder bugs. They just started showing up over the last week. I killed them with some bug killer a couple years ago but more just came back. Now it's sort of a live and let live situation. Only a few ever get inside the house. And a couple hard freezes kills most of them outdoors. Unfortunately, my chickens won't eat them.
