What did you do in the garden today?

I started clearing out our raised beds and found garlic (forgot we planted it) and horseradish which we had planted a couple of years ago - it clearly needs at least 2 years to become worthy ...

Nearly passed out sniffing our ground horseradish but either way it's a Brucie Bonus ... < you probably need to be from the UK to get that reference!

We just used about 4' of PEX to plumb in the new shower, and the pipes/fittings are all still exposed. Is there anything I can wrap round the PEX to keep the mice from snacking on it? Like 1/4" hardware cloth, or something?

Never thought about them doing that. And yeah, we have mice.
I have no idea, but it couldn't hurt! Or maybe stuff some of that mouse control steel wool in there (but use gloves if you EVER have to touch it, stuff is nasty). When we put in the new boiler this year DH re-did all the pex with copper.

I pulled the last of the squash vines, took out the tomato vines & stakes. Pulled a couple soaker hoses. I would love to clean up the raised beds but there was a million bees in there on the flowers so I didn't have the heart.

Fried eggplant sandwiches were a treat when I was a kid. Eggplant and ketchup between slices of white bread.
I like to use them with mozzarella and roast beef or cold cut sandwiches.

There isn’t a specific, widely-recognized name for a roast beef or cold cut sandwich topped with roasted eggplant and mozzarella cheese. However, you could call it a “Mediterranean Roast Beef Sandwich” or a “Roast Beef Caprese Sandwich” to highlight the Mediterranean flavors from the roasted eggplant and mozzarella.

I just (almost) finished prepping another 1/2 of a raised bed for next year's gardening. I buried the thick layer of mulch that was on top of the bed down under the dirt, topped it with some fresh chicken fertilizer and raked it in. Needs to be topped with a layer of maple leaves for mulch, someday...

It's nice not having anything left to harvest from the garden. I need a gardening break.

I fell behind. Been super busy! Monday was a holiday for the small human so we planted broccoli, cauliflower, beets, lettuce, and caraway. We also picked the rest of the tomatillos and I ripped the plants out. I could have got more... I don't need more... so out they came!

Tuesday I pressure canned tomatillo hot sauce and refried beans.

You can see here that work has been light. So I've been home! Working!

Yesterday I got out front....Oh I have a LONG road ahead... my yard looks like nobody lives here. But less so now I guess. I sharpened the flat blade shovel and cut the Bermuda grass away from the driveway. It's been over growing for the last..... 7 years. Now I can see the edge of the driveway again.

I fixed the drip line out front.... Oh my... I had turned it off for about 9 months (everything is dying because of that).... There were gopher chews in two sections and one emitter flew off and left a fountain.... Ehem... I decided to fix it all, finally. It took me less than 10 minutes... I'm so ashamed that it took me so long to actually get around to fixing. However I'm okay with it because I want to redo the whole front anyway. But dang. I could have had happy plants if I had gotten around to fixing that a while ago.

I started raking all of the dead weeds up out front. Murdered the palm tree that has sprung up and blocked the view out of my driveway ( I just cut the leaves off, you can't kill them they're immortal). I need to call the power company. I can't dig it out and it's right next to their pole. It needs to go.

Today I gave away a bunch of my seedlings to the neighbor. I fed the chickens some kale, I'm chasing a new gopher... My pumpkins I planted for my DS are finally making carving pumpkins! You know.... way too late. lol.

Tomorrow we pick up our new camping trailer/toy hauler. Pretty sure we'll need to ratchet down the suspension on our RZR to fit it, but it should fit! If it doesn't.. well, crap on a flipflop. I measured as good as I could!

My hands are bruised to the bone from cutting out the Bermuda grass with the shovel and using the weed whacker. I done messed up my hands. Again. I hurt a little bit. Seeing the bruises is more concerning... I've hurt before, but not seen bruising like I have. And by a little bit.... I mean owwies, I can't grip the steering wheel to turn the car around.... So I think I definitely overdid it. Again. I'm good at that. Sigh. I need to go cut wood.... Why do I do this to myself. My husband has a word for it. "dumb ..." you know the last three letters. He's not wrong. But I'm running out of days without rain... I need to get all this done!
I make salsa Verde with my tomatillos. Is that what you mean by hot sauce? Mine isn't very hot though.... But we love it! First year making it.

Tore out the rest of the tomatoes and some of the peppers. Husband tilled so I can get my garlic planted. I've been using my garlic from previous years for couple years now. It's the Music variety and in the Midwest it really grows well and forms big heads. Will amend my soil tomorrow with some bonemeal and slow release fertilizer. This year was a challenge for gardening with the drought but my garden still really provided so much food.
