Just ordered potatoes for the spring. The prices at some places are crazy (Territorial seeds, I’m looking at you -to be fair they have always arrived in great condition and produced well, but I’m priced out this year). So, I looked up one variety we really wanted (Purple Viking) and went from there.

Sometimes there's potatoes sales end of March or April. But not always what you want, especially popular or new varieties

I have 2 best mouse traps in my house, working 100%. they are my 2 cats.

I have 2 barn cats who are both very good mousers... I see them catching field rats all the time but only saw them "hunting" around my coops once or twice which is where I need them to hunt the most. So I rely on live traps in the coop area instead

something ate some of my broccoli and cauliflower. leaves are intact and forming crowns gone as if someone cut them. never happened before. what could that be?

Today, while I was refilling my aquaculture tank, it over flowed and 4 tilapias jumped out. Instead of putting them back in the tank I decided to cook them. I used the roast setting on my Breville oven and set the temperature to 350F and cooked 4 average size tilapias uncovered for 30 minutes. It came out moist with the top forming a crust and there were a lot of juices on the bottom. I used paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, chicken bouillon powder, coriander powder, siracha chili sauce and olive oil. Next time, I will try broiling the fish on both sides like this video. This good-natured lady inspired me to try her recipe.

I have a brassica that popped up spontaneously last spring, made it through the summer and is still going. I believe that mice or rabbits are eating it. They don't seem to like the stem, so it just regrows new leaves.

Yes, older. But, pre-Covid he was like this too.

Yes. We could wait, but we really like the purple Viking potatoes. They are Snow White inside, and perfect taste and texture. I’m not picky about my potatoes, so red/waxy, yellow, or white - and they are all good, but the purple Viking are good and husband prefers them.

I order from Sandhill Preservation, Iowa. Read up on sweet potatoes there for lots of info. They sell a couple hundred varieties across traditional orange, white, and purple. You’ll want to know how long your season is as well. I only will buy early (maybe early-mid) season ones bc our season too short for anything else. Space: some vine a ton, some are “bushy” with slight vining. We use black plastic to heat soil up replanting, and keep it on for the season. Sweet potatoes like it HOT and also consistently moist to almost wet (especially the first month can’t hardly over water them).

I know we ordered Topaz and Copper Jewel and Willowleaf. I ordered a fourth variety but can’t remember without looking (new to us variety).

We started with ordering collections. Then specific ones and collections. This year we decided to plant only a few orange varieties in 2025.
