What did you do in the garden today?

Normally I do not have a big problem with hawks... They show up occasionally and usually fly away to hunt elsewhere as soon as I come outside. On rare occasion, I've had to shoot off bottle rockets into the air a time or two to act as a deterrent.

Today they've been RELENTLESS. There are 2 or 3 of them hunting together. I've been outside 4 times now trying to run them off. I've burned through nearly my entire supply of bottle rockets (I stock up every 4th of July) and it's not even phased them. The only thing that seemed to help earlier today was putting my LGD outside. She goes bonkers every time she sees a hawk so it's been a good deterrent. However she won't stay outside the entire day. At least one hawk is back again (early afternoon). This one did seem to fly away when I went outside. Just don't know what has changed that they are suddenly targeting my birds... I've never seen them this bad.

They could be some that you've ran off before and now they know that you are not going to harm them so they have decided to stick around regardless of what you do.

I gave him a big plate of scrambled eggs this morning. Figured he's going to need some extra protein after running all day yesterday with no food.... 😁

He was so happy & excited when I opened the door. He wouldn't stop licking me. Hasn't left my side all morning....
So precious! Glad he's home and getting spoiled:love

I don't know... Maybe? But I feel like something has changed in regards to their normal food supply or hunting grounds. They just seemed so determined and almost desperate. And I've NEVER seen them hunt as a group before...at least not around here. While my property does appear secluded from the ground because of the huge oak trees, it's actually rather urbanized from a birds perspective given that I'm right on the edge of town. They usually stick to hunting in the more rural areas... And Arkansas has A LOT of rural area.

I don't know... Their persistence just seems so weird.

Ok done on the phone. Pots with rooted sprouts from mulberry stump. Pic 2 is the stump. Stool bed or stump bed method of rooting rootstocks for grafting.

Just back from my check of the state Park I border. I counted 46 bald eagles and there's no way I spotted all of them. The younger ones are brown and harder to see in some of the roosting trees.

I saw my first eastern bluebird today. Welcome back.

And there are approximately 842 BILLION, plus or minus 200, migratory robins currently down in the hay pasture. LOL Glory, never seen so many at once.

I only saw one white pelican on the lake, but it's a couple weeks early for them. They like the water fully open, free of ice, which is it now, JUST.

Some hawks migrate south in the fall and back north to nesting areas in the spring. A lot of them are probably just passing through your area right now. I bet you see fewer in the next month or so.
