What did you do in the garden today?

I noticed many of my smaller potatoes rotted over the winter. Either that or the ants ate the inside but left the skin behind. I'm not sure how many are left. I may have to buy more potatoes
They rotted inside the house, or do you leave them in the ground over the winter? Some varieties of potato keep better than others. And I think they're supposed to be cured before storage.

I bought this slug trap that says to use beer as bait, but I haven't killed a slug with it yet, so I emptied it out and put in one of those Andro outdoor ant bait things inside and poured in a little borax and sugar mixture to attract the ants. At least the slug beer house keeps the water out.

Most if the ice is gone, thank goodness. There’s still scattered snow piles in the shady areas. We’re in the middle of a wicked wind storm today and tomorrow then the temperatures will warm up nicely. I managed to get some pruning done on the apple trees yesterday. I should be able to set up my two new raised beds early next week. I plan on using as much compost to fill them and mix with plain topsoil. It’s so much cheaper than garden dirt. I ordered shallot sets and a mix of white, red and yellow onion sets today. I’ll set up my seed starting table soon. I don’t want to start anything too early.

I finally got daikon seeds in the ground, variety is Minowase, which can grow up to 24 inches long. I reworked the row cover over the brassicas so it's even higher. It'll probably be weeks before any plants grow tall enough to reach it.

And I got my shallots planted. 60 plants, rows 10 inches apart, plants 5 inches apart in the rows. 10 rows. The plants are very small, not much larger in diameter than a #2 pencil lead. Next year I'll start the seeds in late November or early December.

I now have one entire 5' x 15' raised bed filled with plants and seeds. Three more raised beds to go. And a 12x25 foot plot in the yard for peppers, tomatoes and whatnot.

Yep. Every night of the year for me. I also made the huge mistake of going to the local public library to study yesterday and had a full on allergic reaction there. I didn't catch it while I was sitting there until 2 hours in. My eyes were on fire, itchy all over, SO stuffy and a headache. The place must have been thick with mold, mites, dust.
Even my allergy shot spots this week burned.
Now I have a sinus headache.
I wonder how often their AC unit is serviced and cleaned. Aircon always irritated my asthma as a kid.

And my chives are looking huge this year, their third year in the ground.

Mine were Yukon Gold. I tried to overwinter them in the dirt in my raised bed. I'm really leaning towards ants eating them from the inside out. I have a lot of trouble with ants (fire ants, no less) in my raised beds
