What did you do in the garden today?

My seedlings were starting to look yellow. Not sure if I over watered or if it's from lack of nutrients in the coco coir starter medium. So I mixed up some fish fertilizer and kelp water. Stinky... Gave them all a good drink and then took the seedlings outside into the natural sunlight. I'll move them back indoors at night over the next few days and then trying to get them in the ground this weekend maybe. Hopefully being out in the sun and breeze will dry up some of the extra moisture.

I also got my garden fixed up from the flash flood damage. Well...the in-ground garden and hoop house walkway anyway. Still need to add more soil to the beds that were washed out.

Just tired today so not much getting done quickly.

I finished filling in the pea rows with new seeds, and planted another 5 foot long double row of snow peas in a different bed. That's about twice the amount I grew last year. I do like peas, but just the edible pod peas. Easier than shelling them and tastier in my opinion.

And the chicks are happy. I switched them over from living on towels to pine shaving bedding. Right now they're on a towel-covered heating pad to keep warm.

I have a couple ceramic heat lamp bulbs arriving in a few days that I'll start using for heat from above. Then I can use the heating pad under my tomato starts.

FYI: The trees I ordered from Stark Brothers were supposed to come this week. Then they sent an email saying they were going to coming the week of April 27th.

Week of April 27, 2025 (was Week of April 6, 2025)

Now I got an email today saying they are now planning on sending them the end of May or early June.

WTH? They are still sending me emails to buy more trees and I just want the ones I already bought!

I’m getting the same delays for the tree I ordered. Fingers crossed they show up.

Thanks! I'm located about halfway between Olympia and Vancouver where it shows no sightings, probably because no one's reported any. I'm pretty sure I saw/sensed one whiz by my head today so I think they're here now.

That is not a good time to be planting fruit trees. I'd cancel that order and try a local nursery for something to plant now.

I cancelled my order. Just sad, going to try Fast Growing Trees but they are super expensive, and they didn't have the dwarf size. Oh well. Today has been a hard day for me, most of the day I had to lay in the dark with the heating pad on my head from a throbbing headache.

I pulled weeds by the grapes today. I love my hori hori. Never fails me!

Mowed the front weed patch. Got a lot done today.

My MIL got me a weed puller thingy from friskars that you push into the ground and it grabs the weed. It was glorious for the 6 hours it worked. Then I broke it.... Back to the good ole hori hori!

It was hot today. 85. I kept watching sweat drip from my nose and chin while I was working. Felt great though. Drank two big glasses of water over the course of my breaks.

Slowly, the yard is looking like I actually care.

The chicks are getting curious, and starting to fly up to the edge of the brooder. They go to the grow out space in the lean-to tomorrow. Which means the seedlings must come out for good.
