What did you do in the garden today?

Went back to the garden and this is what I missed earlier. And there is more. Cucumber, zucchini and buttercrunch lettuce volunteers. We dug up an area for another compost and in doing so, must have hit last year's compost. Yeah! As these survived and are growing, I think the genetics of the seeds are very good. We will transplant several and save the seeds. This happened last year with tomatoes. As we have only been growing one variety of tomatoes, cukes and zuc for the last several years and saving seeds, these should all be true to parent. A good day in the garden, well compost turned garden.

Personally I will never order another tree from Starks. Had issues with my order from them years ago. I ordered 2 cherries, 2 plums and 2 peaches, all dwarfs. Got 3 plums, 1 nectarine, and 1 cherry. When I called to complain, they said it was my fault, said I must've ordered it wrong and I had to pay shipping to return to them and shipping again for the right items. pissed me off. I kept their order instead of getting what I wanted, planted them and it turns out one of those plums isn't even a dwarf! Do you know how much work it is to dig out a full grown tree! None of the trees are late blooming like the ones I ordered so I rarely get fruit, frost gets them almost every year. Nope, not happy with Starks at all.
I have to say, and I’ve mentioned them before, I have purchased from Gurneys many times and they have always made good without question on any issue I’ve ever had. They recently replaced a $30.00 rhubarb plant I ordered and planted last year that failed and was out of the warranty period by several weeks.

87 degrees at the moment and dry as a bone.
I've got a willow to plant.
The orioles are having a field day in the garden at the feeder, but no hummingbirds, so far.
I have to move the wood pile for the siding guys, so I built a wood rack - just one of those cinder block 2x4 things.
I need to get the irrigation system going for the pasture, or I'll loose it.
The beans and corn needed planted.
I just cannot get over how gross it is out - it's too early.
Canning stuff ready. Freeze Dryer is running with ground chicken, spaghetti sauce, and Velveeta cheese.

Nice set up.

Stark Brothers - they have issues.

Ordered 5 trees with expected arrival weeks ago. Nothing. Nothing at all has arrived.

Since my order I’ve received two (2) email telling me that my delivery pushed out until another date. But I’ve received over sixty (60)… yes, sixty emails telling me to buy buy buy, sale sale sale, almost gone, most popular…. You get the idea. Sixty email in one month’s time…that is two a day on average (although I’ve received a few more than 60). But they can’t ship me what I ordered.

A few years ago their issue was that you could never find anything in stock. And I actually stalked their website for 1.5 years…checking it regularly for items and signing up for notifications when something came back in stock. That was a failure, and had to buy some trees from another place. That never-in-stock issue has resolved but now they are clearly waaaaay over promising and cannot fulfill even basic orders.

Yes, I called and got told what they wanted me to hear. But, that (the trees) never materialized, so I’m left without trees, and it’s May.

And I’ve received a couple of emails telling me my trees are shipped, arriving by x dates, but nothing arrived….. when I check my order on their site nothing is shipped, just says “ordered”, and nothing arrives.

So, do I cancel the order and never return to Stark? Wait until next year and order from another supplier? Which supplier? Do I wait to receive this Stark order and plant when they arrive (then never order again from Stark)? Ugh.
Wow! Just wow... Personally, I'd cancel the order but that's just me.

Finished planting my corn and okra..don't be impressed! I have a small garden but organic fresh sweet corn is outrageously priced here which is ironic since I live in the Huskers state! My garden is all planted now and I'm happy with it! Not a big one but I can manage it -so I'm happy with that. I'll post pics when more seeds have sprouted!
