What did you do in the garden today?

We got over 3 inches of rain in the rain gauge in the past 24 hours. Fortunately, the winds weren’t too bad with no damage in my immediate area. Grocery shopping and returning Amazon purchases today. I’m hoping I can get back to garden prepping and planting tomorrow. The temperatures are finally getting out of the 40’s.

All these posts about rain over the last few weeks... We haven't had rain since April. While I don't envy the tornados and flooding... I do wish we got rain in the late spring and summer like other parts of the US. Send me rain! 😭 It was in the 90s all week here.

Today I will start more pumpkin seeds. I will!

Then this weekend we're at the lake. It is going to be a much cooler weekend. Low 80s and mid 70s. Probably won't get in the water.

DH and his dad tried to take a dip at the shore yesterday and only got past their ankles before giving up; and it was in the 90s outside. 🤣

DS and I got in the pool yesterday, pool was 88° and sparkling clean! 😁

I think the weather is getting to where peppers and tomatoes can go into the ground. Planting bean and squash seeds will have to wait a little longer for the ground to warm up some more. I think I'll pull weeds out of the garden today. I've been slacking off in the weeding department.

I upgraded the chicks' brooder box yesterday by adding a couple inch layer of decomposed woodchip mulch, straight out of the garden. They've been scratching and pecking non-stop in the stuff, eating who knows what. I'm sure there are tiny little bugs of some kind in the mulch.

Pulled up about a dozen big leaf lettuce plants and all the watercress and gave them to the chickens. Weeded the onions, shallots, beets and carrots. Fertilized the onions, beets and shallots with rotted weed tea fertilizer then watered it in.

And I dug out all the HomeDisaster strawberry plants that sucked. One grew a tiny leaf, the rest were dead. They're in the bag with the receipt ready to return to HomeDepot and get my refund. They were like $12 for 10 plants, and there were only 9 in the bag!

This is the first I've worked in the garden for quite a while.

That is disappointing glad you're returning them. Those bagged strawberries and other things in the big box stores never seem to do well.

I bought a bag of red onion bulbs too and out of the 90 I think 20 are growing. I got them mainly for the grandkids to grow in their little garden plots, so I guess it was worth the four bucks.
