What did you do in the garden today?

Over the years I have been throwing out my WD40 spray cans when they run out of air pressure. I woke up one morning with an idea and it worked. I made a hole with the pointy side of the bottle opener and saved the WD40 in a jar. I use it to take off the tree insect glue from my hands. That stuff is really hard to come off without WD40.

You can re-pressurize with an air compressor. There's YouTube on it.

My sunflowers are officially taller than I am. Picked my first jalapenos today, diced and mixed into cream cheese, then stuffed into a beaten thin pork loin. Omg, was so good. Is there anything that tastes as good as the food you grow yourself?
Tons of tomatoes on the plants, roma and beefsteak, but none ripe yet. Putting huckleberries in the freezer til i have a couple gallons to cook up at once. My cucumbers are starting to take off now that we're getting warmer weather. I have tons of little skinny green beans, romanos, on the bushes But I'm still stuck just looking at the plants and dreaming of all the good stuff I'll be getting from them. Someday.
All my cold weather plants are bolting, so yanking those and reseeding with chard tomorrow.

It rained all night here and lightly all day! We needed dit so badly! What a blessing. Walked through the garden with my raincoat and did a little list making. Transplanted volunteers since it's the perfect day for that. If you want to grow pumpkins but don't want to worry about squash vine borers I've had great luck with Long Island Cheese pumpkin. They have a thick stem not hollow. So borers can't bite into them..I can pumpkin puree from them and they are delicious.

Wow!! Just... Wow! That was AMAZING. I wish I'd heard about this little trick YEARS ago... I'm talking about shining a bright flashlight through your squash stems and stalks to locate any larva. I went through ALL my plants and, luckily, found NO SVB larva... ❤️👏❤️👏 But I was amazed by how clear it was... Even with the kaolin clay coating my plants.

The 2nd amazing part to this experience? Just like chickens, SVB roost at night. I found several "roosting" on top of my plants. They didn't even try to fly away. It was stupid easy to just pick them up and squish them. 💪💪💪

I took a Sharpie out with me so I could mark any spots with larva. Then I could come back in the morning and either cut them out in that spot or inject BT. My supplies are currently locked up in the garden shed and I didn't want to hassle with getting them out. Next time I scan like this, I'll have supplies with me.

Wasn't it FABULOUS?!?!?!!?

Is that the Okinawan or Molokai potato? One year I had a Molokai sweet potato in a 15-gallon wicking container, and it did not form any potatoes after 6 months. This year I Kept up with fertilizing every month and I see potatoes forming near the top.
Copilot: If your goal is to grow large, high-quality sweet potatoes, consider using a fertilizer with an N-P-K ratio closer to 5-10-10 or 8-24-24. The higher potassium (K) helps promote bigger, healthier tubers. Also, supplementing with bone meal or wood ash can provide extra phosphorus and potassium while keeping nitrogen levels in check.
I just google, yes it is Okinawan. In the shop here it stated Hawaiian sweet potato. So it is not easy to grow like other sweet potatoes. My other sweet potatoes are just growing everywhere, I do not have to so anything, but let them run wild. Okinawan is going to need some tending to. I hope it grows leaf at the very least because the 2 I put down have no sprouts on them.
