What did you do in the garden today?

The plants look good, made good scapes. I planted two kinds: my standby, Music, and a new-to-me variety called Metechi. The Metechi plants are definitely smaller, but it was advertised as being a smaller variety, but with a big flavor. The Metechi scapes are just starting.
Mine too. I planted music, German reds and purple glazer last fall. I believe metechi's are a type of purple. I harvested scapes from the musics today. The purples are starting to grow scapes and the reds are the smallest of the 3 types so far. Its been interesting so far to see the definite difference in the three types as they grow.

You're growing them vertically on poles? I'm going to give that a try this year with my 4 zucchini plants and see how it works for me.
Well, they're supposed to be on poles...... I haven't gotten my stakes in yet. 😅🥴

I was overly ambitious. I didn't get everything done. We had to go to a birthday party. Then I had to go take care of my best friends chickens. Been looking after them since Monday while she's on vacation.

I did clean the chicken coop, fertilize the lawn, water a bit, dug up the rest of the potatoes(this ate a lot of time that I hadn't planned but DS didn't want to help because it was already in the high 80's), got that bed ready to plant, put mulch on one garden bed, and pulled weeds in one bed.

Tomorrow morning I'll be up early. Going to stage the father's day gifts for DH before he gets out of bed. Drip will get done tomorrow. Peppers will get planted. Have to pressure can a bunch of bone broth. I needed room in the freezer for blackberries so the store of chicken carcasses needed to get turned into broth ASAP.

Took a few photos today. Finally.

My nitrogen IS low and I do add a balanced fertilizer when planting, I also had to lime to get the Ph up. Always worried(well OK, NOT worry) About top growth at the expense of the root growth. :he
BEETS, THE EASY CROP. :barnie
Yeah they actually need more nitrogen than you think. Especially if you're using organics. And like I said, keep the soil evenly moist. They absolutely hate getting dry. But hate wet feet. Loamy soil or straight compost is good for planting.

Let's see, ticks, biting flies, too hot, too humid, a weird rash, not enough wind, wind from the wrong direction, too much sun, slimy sunscreen.....yep, pretty much a classic date.
Nothing sexier than being covered in grit, sunscreen, and flakes of sweat salt.

I freeze dry and can carrots.
You and that freeze dryer! It's been almost a year with it now right? You got the large? Seems like you make good use of it and like it. I'm still waiting to pull the trigger. My finger is getting itchy.
