What did you do in the garden today?

might be sesame (tahini). try to make it with mayonnaise (or 1/2 mayo 1/2 yogurt) instead of tahini.
That’s the oil, I also get that. If you fry it, it gonna be even more painful. The aubergine together with the oil create an ouch.
Mayonnaise is scary.
What you can do is replace the aubergine with bottle gourd, tastes amazing.

Far behind again! I try to keep up with you all, but other things take up time too.

Yesterday we had an intense storm for about 30 min. Even the tiny carrot plants were flattened to the ground, pepper plants were tipped over -not broken though.

Sweet potato slips arrived … right as this heat dome started. Took me two days to plant them- about 115 slips, some of which may not survive (USPS did them no favors prior to receiving). But plenty look happily hot (nestled under black plastic), and wet/moist - both things they love to be.

Garlic looks great! But still in the ground. Will harvest in a week perhaps. The onions are looking good too. Will have to harvest one variety as many are now tipped over (began a few days before the storm yesterday) so I need to get them on a rack to cure.

Potatoes are beginning to look “done”, so I’ve been harvesting some from the dirt as needed for meals. Yum!

Japanese beetles -1st one spotted yesterday. I’ll need to spray a few of the fruit trees, bc one in particular is an absolute magnet for them -they stunted its growth for 2years before I finally broke down and began to spray that tree with an actual pesticide for the duration of the JB season.

Chickens- still having issues with this Feb batch. Another death a couple days ago - they are about 16 weeks old now. We decided we will get more chicks this year, but will drive to Meyer hatchery and pick up some chicks. The problem batch came from a different hatchery (which we also picked up in person, and have used that other hatchery for years without any oroblems). But this is the last year needing to care about 4H rules for fancy and egglayer chickens bc last year kid shows in 4H. Love 4H, great program, but glad to move onto non-kid activities after 27 years of parenting. I’ll just submit my own things to the fair as I feel like it.
What pesticide do you use for Japanese beetles? I don't want to use too nasty stuff, so nothing seems working for Japanese beetles. I applied milky spore in my yard and it worked really good, but it cannot stop the beetles from neighbors' yards. I just use trap and hand catch rest of them.

I had a batch of chicks from Meyer with MG. I believe it's from the Dorking chick, since they got rid of the dorkings a few months later. And they always sent me wrong colored silkies. I got a Buff instead of Splash and Black instead of Cuckoo, although their paper said that they sent me the correct ones. On the positive side, they are the only one carrying sexed Silkies and haven't sent me a roo yet (knock on wood:fl).

7 ft tall. Not sure of the variety, it was in a mixed seed pack from the dollar tree.

Interested in understanding how you define dead water.
Lots of controversy over microwaves. Not sure how true they are. I have not tried the comparison of watering a plant with cooled water from microwave verses stovetop/electric kettle. I know that tea tastes different.
