What did you do in the garden today?

Very basic but thats how I like it. I have my land(15 acres) and then I am the caretaker for 40 acres owned by the church directly behind me plus I have vacant property next to me. Owned this property for 15 years and I didn't have any neighbors until this year. Debating a move now, they wanted to bring alot of noise and traffic.
Sounds like a nice setup @Backroadlogic

My Mtn Dews today stained my teeth and lips blue, for example. I managed to get it off my teeth but not my lips yet… it wasn’t the normal green/yellow Mtn Dew, it was a couple other, different flavors, that are different shades of blue. Anyway, I think the first one stained them the most, but I LOVE Mtn Dew so still drink it unfortunately but it IS annoying and a little concerning it stains like that LOL but I just won’t buy that flavor again. Didn’t really like that one anyways. But I’m aware how many chemicals and bad stuff Mtn Dew has in it and working towards quitting eventually (and all caffeine) but for now, I still drink it. I’m just working on drinking less of it in a day until I get to zero. But yeah.
Baby steps. I really Like espresso coffee. I would drink 2-3 cups a morning. I found that caffeine is an anti nutrient that will draw mineral/vitamins from the body/bones. So 9 months ago, I began to cut back, slowly. I now drink 1-1.5 cups on the days I drink it, on some mornings I drink a caffeine free hot tea (usually a ginger lemon with just a touch of honey (1/2 tsp) sometimes. Whatever works to cut the caffeine. The biggest problem is the couple of pieces of chocolate I thoroughly enjoy at bed, while reading a book. So I only do this 4 nights instead of 7, Baby steps.

Shadrach recommended an app that scans the barcode and tells you if it has bad ingredients. And shows better options.
Yuka - The Mobile App That Scans Your Products https://share.google/FfjuCcEab5S8LCNCd

It's from France, free for the basic. The paid allows you to search.
Thank you. Why do so many sites/businesses "require" an app?

I wear a tin foil hat, though usually take it off to sleep but not always.

Noah was a conspiracy theorist...then it rained.

Do you think it ever becomes cheaper to have backyard eggs than buying? I built and outfitted ourselves for about $1500.00 figuring 5 hens. We ended up with 6, 2 of which were roosters, which we got on the 2 of July this year. By the middle of December we got our first egg….so, I guess the first egg cost $1500.00 not $600.00. Of course, these gals have been pumping eggs out at an average of three a day. So, per egg price obviously dropped a lot but I always wonder whether it ever actually becomes cheaper.
Nope... Maybe over 20 years or more. After moving to a new place, I've built 3 coops of various sizes. I've probably spent $2500 - $3000 collectively. Those coops house anywhere from 60 - 80 chickens, depending on the year, and up to 12 ducks. Then there's feed costs which are easily $300-$400/month. Even with all that poultry, I don't think I've EVER cleared more than $100 in any month selling eggs. Typically I make about $40 - $60/month.

So yeah... This is a tax write-off. 😂 But at least eggs at $10/dozen, if you could even find them at all, has never been a problem for me....

I believe this thread addresses our general desire to eat as naturally as possible. I’ve always adhered to the moderation stance and stuck with the natural(unaltered/undesigned) foods:sugar, flour, salt, butter, lard, milk, eggs, etc. Grow and can a lot of our own vegetables and do not buy any premade/ready to eat foods except for the occasional chips or pizza. Grandmother cooked with the above, grandparents ate well(we all did), and they died at 88 and 87. So, they, the researchers, can keep the sugar substitutes, play with the definition of what milk is, bad mouth eggs, and muddy the waters on fat. I’ll stick with good old God given food.
Ditto!
