What did you do in the garden today?

I should be out in the garden doing stuff but I'm lazy today. Tired, feeling defeated by the sun. It hurts to be outside. I messed up and aggravated my shoulder impingement.... so I can't use my right arm today anyway.

Yesterday we pulled another 4 lbs of blueberries and another bunch of cukes (which quickly began their journey to kosher dill land). Pulled more cherry tomatoes and a few of the main crop maters, some of which made their way into BLT’s Also had to catch Clarice, our sweetheart hen, and trim ‘very carefully’ some of the feathers from around her vent to help her not get so ‘messy’ back there.

Anyone on here grow chickpeas (garbanzo beans)?

I am doing an experiment with my Armenia cucumber vine. I put a long, medium and small branch in a 2-gallon bucket of water to see if the longer vine will grow roots at each node and to see which size does the best. I cut each branch from the main stem, so the longer one is more mature.

Feeling depressed.
Last Sunday night I hurt my thumb really bad. I toughed it out and it seemed to be healing but then last night while doing chores I hurt it again and it was really bad. My husband was at a funeral visitation, and I texted him that I might need to go to the ER. I toughed it out but this morning I told him I was ready to go.
But we got 4 inches of rain and the basement was flooded, so we cleared a drain and went to the ER. Yeah, my thumb is fractured.
I have chickens to butcher and things to can. My middle son is getting married on the 2nd and we are helping them move to Wyoming. I don't have time for this right now.

Sorry to hear you’re having a rough time. I’m guessing they didn’t do anything to the thumb much more than a small splint.

I think I won't get anymore of the black raspberries, as the birds have found them. Oh well. Two batches of jam, and a good lesson on making jam with honey. I call that a win.

Nothing done out there today. We had a long, chatty lunch with friends that took most of the afternoon. I'll get out there and do stuff tomorrow.

But... drum roll... we ate our first ripe tomato! I picked 3 a few days ago to ripen on the counter. The other two will probably be ready tomorrow or Tuesday. I've seen more that are starting to turn red out in the garden.

We have some habaneros from last year in the freezer, so hubby will be making salsa with fresh tomatoes this week.
