What did you do in the garden today?

Two hot days near or over 90F so aiming to water the new plantings and the SM tomatoes and onions on the hill. My acorn squash seedlings are doing really under the cover of the pea plants. I should be picking pole beans in the next couple of days. Welcome back to the thread @TropicalBabies. It’s been a long time. I hope all is well in your part of the islands.
Thanks @Wee Farmer Sarah ! Much appreciated ♡ Life has settled enough for me to get back into gardening. Isn't that dreamy?! Enjoying summer fruit and prepping for a fall garden. Just made some wicking containers. Like them so much going to make more. Hope springs eternal 😅 🥬🍅

How goes the homestead for you? 🥕🫛🐔

Me too, I started that chore but didn't even finish one whole cane. 😂
Seeing as the neighboring grapevine has grown almost 20feet to the west into the blackberry, it took two of us to separate the two to see if the canes had leaves or not. Also had to control them before they created some monster blackberry grape hybrid monster.
Hmmmm blackberry grape.

Not even that… Tuesday is my “I am mentally ill day”. I do acupuncture therapy, psychotherapy, meet my social worker and eat outside.

I have a hobby: chickens! My other hobby, working out, got me to where I am now. I developed a body dysmorphic disorder, and had so many panic attacks because “I didn’t have time to finish my workout”, which could take up to three hours a day. I had recurring inflammations, especially on the left side of my chest, I had to go to hospital, because I thought I was heaving a heart attack. It’s a long story, but I’m back at the gym the past month, and I found a job finally. And I’m getting better.

Mental health day sounds good.
I tend to go overboard with things too.
Working out an hour or 2 every night for years until I started working 60 to 80 hrs.

Now it's poultry. I had 3 dz adult turkeys and over 70 adult chickens for a while. Predators have thinned them down . 13 adult turkeys and 60 adult chickens now.
Chicken math is real 😨

Well, my suspicion that the soil in my new garden bed was acidic was correct. I tested it with my Rapitest 4 in 1 soil tester and it showed that the pH was right around 5, very acidic. It's a clay soil and compacted pretty bad also. No wonder my tomato and pepper plants look strange and aren't growing much.

I just ordered a 30 pound bag of Pennington fast acting agricultural lime. The instructions say that raising the soil pH from 5 to 7 requires 18 pounds per 1000 sq ft. The garden plot is a little over 300 square feet, so I'll apply 6 pounds when I get it and measure the pH again in a few months.

I'll add a lot of compost to the plot this fall and fork it in, and hopefully it will be in better shape next year.
