What did you do in the garden today?

When my mom passed away in 2023, I went through her non-climate-controlled garden shed and found hundreds of seed packets. Most had expiration dates of 2016 or 2017. Depending on what it was, I was able to still get successful germination in 2024 and 2025. Doesn't hurt to try...

I was able to germinate beans, lettuce, carrots, cantaloupe, watermelon, and cilantro.
Were you able to gauge the germination percentage? Any idea of which supplier did better?

I found the this cool pepper flower while walking through the garden.

This is embarassing to write. I have been growing amaranth for years. This morning is the first time I actually cooked and ate it. It was awesome with eggs.

Enjoying a huge harvest of starfruit. Made starfruit jam for the first, second and third time. Also cleaned and froze 2 gallons of fruit so far. Tree is still fairly loaded so hoping to harvest some more this week b4 they are gone. It is pretty warm here.
Harvested 3 more soursop fruits and hope to make a jam with that also. Also, sowed a bunch of seeds for my fall garden.
Wicking beds are terrific and I am actively looking for another food safe IBC container to make 2 more beds.

Grabbed some mint and some of what was left of my lemongrass from the mountain and planted in one on my wicking barrels. Everything seems to be defying the heat so far.
Found some mulch at the side of the road so bagged some up for the garden and chicken run.
Upsidedown tomato plant experiments have upward of 10 tomatoes so far. Not completely unhappy with that considering..

Found a fuzzy Piko garden bug squishing my spider plants....

Thankfully I was able to lure it away with the shaking of a treat canister.

Not anything scientifically controlled... 😂 Some seeds...like onions and cukes...had zero germination. Most, if not all, of the melons and watermelon germinated because they were sown in individual cells. But it's harder to gauge things that were direct sown like carrots, lettuce, etc... I had stuff that grew but I couldn't say what percentage of the seeds were viable.
