What did you do in the garden today?

Storms dropped 2.5 inches of rain. Lost power when first of 5 waves came through at 5:40 pm. Came back on before midnight.
Spent hrs this morning cutting a path to the burn pile. Took 3 tractor buckets down and have piles left to cut up...
Only tree limbs damage that I have seen here.

Garden is sad, cukes and winter squash are dying back and the tomatoes are succumbing to blight. I’ve been having issues with beetles munching on carrots, potatoes, lavender, chamomile, Swiss chard, egg plants, and many more. No clue what they are but they are nocturnal and look like mini June bugs. During the day they hide just under the surface of the soil, often around the base of whatever plants they’ve been munching off the night before. The birds LOVE eating them but they are awful.

Here’s some of the new varieties I tried this year. The gold medal tomatoes is just shy of 2lbs. Black brandy wine kept green shoulders and is probably the worst with blight effecting most the fruit so I don’t think I will grow them again. The scalloped yellow squash was pretty cool and plenty tasty. I’ve pollinated and kept track of one squash to save seeds from. Suyo Long cukes are fairing better with whatever disease has spreading among the plants. Fruits are super crunchy, not bitter and of course very long. My only complaint is they get kinda floppy shortly after picking even when refrigerated. Saving seeds from them too. The dragon tongue beans are super easy to see and pick, taste good and looks cool. Of course like the purple beans they don’t keep their color once cooked. And lastly the Antigua egg plant, my freebie seeds from Baker Creek. Haven’t tasted them yet but they are pretty and only bugs have messed with them so far.

Pink banana squash, lots of them despite the vine borers.

Mystery seeds from who knows how long ago resulted in this winter squash

I believe these were my mashed potato X delicate seeds I saved last year. Interesting that the squash started off yellow.
