What did you do in the garden today?

This can of mackerel in salt brine makes a very favorable fish soup. I added 3 cups of water to it and made a Thai flavored fish soup.

Current standards:

  • U.S. FDA regulations prohibit the use of lead in food-contact surfaces.
  • Manufacturers use BPA-free or epoxy linings to prevent corrosion and keep the food safe.

Brine safety: The liquid inside the can (brine) is safe to consume and should not contain lead from the can itself.

My 4 week old chicks started causing a dust problem in the house so I moved them into a new brooder out in the shop. I just got the screws I need to build them a run outdoors, so I need to start that project.

The brooder is portable, my utility trailer and a rabbit cage. The rabbit pellet feeder works well for chicks. It's a lot cooler in the shop so it should get them hardened off for the move outdoors. I gave them radiant heat to sleep under.

I want to move my 4 week old chicks out too. I was noodling on a portable brooder that would also be rat proof. This is a good design and might work for me with a few modifications.

This is us. It rains so little here that people forget how to drive when... Eh, they hardly know how to drive at all here, but I digress, they pretty much drive like they're stuck in molasses and the world will end if the wipers aren't on high.... Even when the roads aren't slick and it's just drizzling. But they still don't turn on their headlights in the rain....
and people here don't know how to drive the first sunny day we get in the spring....and can't find that 10th pair of sunglasses that they bought last year.

Have been dumping coop cleanings out onto the raised beds and big garden.. Mostly everything is done, except the giant kale and collards greens so we still have greens for us and the chickens. Finally pulled out all the support cages. Next free day, maybe finish pulling out the expired plants.
