What did you do in the garden today?

Some hospitals, probably most actually, charge like $500-$2000 or more per DAY just for being there let alone the actual services, etc. so yeah… you could be wiped out with just ONE stay.
You all make me so happy I don't partake in any of that medical stuff. I'm feeling positively rich just thinking how much I've saved over my lifetime, lol

The most frequently cited figure, from a 2019 study published in the American Journal of Public Health analyzing data from 2013-2016, found that 66.5% of bankruptcies were linked to medical issues, including the cost of bills and loss of work. Earlier studies from 2007 suggested a similar figure of about 62%.

60s and 70s all week. No precipitation. Occasional light breezes.......If the weather forecasters are to be believed. I've got the sprinklers running on the garden and flowerbeds. Looking forward to moving the grapes and putting up a new arbor.

Rain forecast for tonight and tomorrow. They're having flooding in quite a few areas. Redding CA should have been on the news considering the flooding. Our daughter in law is saying that Gerber CA is flooding but if it is it's definitely in town Gerber not here. I will post pictures if we do get any high water around here.

I peeked under the row covers to see how everything fared after our 9* weather. Surprisingly, only a few kale survived down in the veggie garden.Up here by the house, kale, chard, collards and Chinese cabbage all made it.... And they're all in pots! Absolute opposite of what I expected. Anyway, got seeds started under the grow lights to replace the losses. Chickens need their greens.

What are you planting beside lettuce right now?
I direct sow in our cooler temps but also only plant manoa, butter crunch and red. Mizuna and arugula. KMP on you sow.
I still have a lot of pressure-cooked tomatoes from early in the year, so I am more interested in peppers this season. I planted some Giant Aconcagua peppers, Italian Bull Horn peppers, and Poblano pepper seeds recently. I see a few of the seeds just starting to sprout. I figured out what disease resistant tomatoes I can grow in my yard and how to grow them, but I am still searching for a disease resistant pepper and how to grow them. I am struggling with Giant Marconi peppers. The peppers only reach 4 inches before turning color; I was thinking it was the seeds, so I ordered some seeds from another vendor and will find out if that was the case.

My brother asked me to grow some long beans, so I will plant them when I get around to it. I also keep sweet potatoes growing all year round in 30 gallon grow bags. I also have some Clancy seed potato starters that I kept from last season popping up. It's easier to grow them from potatoes than from seeds. The Clancy potato sprouts from seeds are tiny and fragile. I had a hard time growing them last year.

As long as you don’t need insurance, it is cheap to go without, but… if you do need to go to a hospital , bills can easily reach over 200000€ 😓 a colleague of my husband had a stroke, was in intensive care and after that rehabilitation, bill was over 200000€, was he glad he was insured, nobody plans on going to the hospital , it just happens 😬
