What did you do with your flock today?

The fellow that gave me Java showed up today wanting to know if I had any peas for sale. He was so tickled to see I still have Java. Turns out his female died. So he wants to bring his male Java here tomorrow and have me breed them and split the babies with him. I get to keep the boy too and he'll get a couple extra babies .

So this evening I ran around rearranging birds so the Java pair can have the pea area to themselves. She's very wild and betting he will be too. Figured it's best not to move her in case it throws her off for laying. So all the other peas got moved instead.

A little nervous about having his boy but excited too. He's ok with me vaccinating him for myco just to be sure. My peas are still myco free and no illness anywhere...but a part of me's still nervous. for a good laying season, a good hatch and no problems.

I sure hope you share pics if there are babies!! How long is peacock incubation? Hopefully shorter than emus!

Ok, your cleaning outfit sounds a bit smarter with the big boots too! I was picturing bare legs and crazy dry pokey plants!

About 29 days. No idea what an emus is but guessing it's longer! I want an emu egg...not hatch, just to enjoy how beautiful they are

Ya...not cute shoes but very practical

Just saw on the news that we hit 97 today! Didn't feel that hot! Went from a freezing night recently to 90's in a blink

97 already?? OMG that’s gross that’s some serious temperature swings! I was whining about 81 and how I wasn’t acclimated to it so it felt really hot I would melt away there haha!

Oh 29 days isn’t too terrible! There’s a breeder here locally that’s kids just left for college and I think she needed a new distraction, so she got emu eggs and has been sharing her adventure with them. They’re super silly birds that just seem like lovable spaz heads They get the zoomies, trip over themselves, do funny side kicks while running…and of course, they peck at EVERYTHING! They take like 42 days to hatch! Would feel like forever waiting for them! They have the most beautiful eggs I think someday it would be fun to have one or two…but definitely need way more space for them

Try redo thread and bobbin same time, same thread. I have my tension @3 but was fine at 2, also regular settings.

I did do the thread and bobbin the same and also the same thread. I have played with the tension but I don’t know I had tension set below 4. I may try that….

Emu beaks scare me... I've seen videos of them poppin and twisting around and they remind me of goats playing. Just cute and goofily adorable

Java boys here! His colors washed out and his feathers are shredded...but hoping it's just upset from the trip here. I'll start loading him up with good food though and keep my that he's healthy. Hard to tell right now but I'll have a better idea of his condition by tomorrow.

Here's my girl...her face colors how his should be too, except he should have blue face skin also. Hers is actually blue, but a pale pale pale blue.

Happy to say that all went well yesterday.
Made the boy chicken transfer. The guy was awesome nice. I lent him my XL cage to make things easier for him & chook so I will find him again in a few weeks. He made it home and has texted already. A kind and likeable human, what a treat.
Then met family @ airport to say goodbye, drop their large items that could not fit in their car & pick up lent car from AJ.
After small store run I headed to urgent care for ear and after 1 hours wait I got in to see a very kind doctor who gave me some good meds. During my wait met a few new friends in the parking lot

Mom was not around (orphans) and they were as sweet and friendly as could be. She would be proud. I had a granola bar in my pack of course, crushed and shared but realized I had some GOOD kine scratch in the back of my truck. They preferred the granola.

I really wanted to scoop them up and take them home but know I would only split them up and create fear in them. So meal and a moment it was.
A few Australian cardinals made it to the party too.
