What did you do with your flock today?

Joey whipped the head bantam roo in less than 5 minutes of entering the new place. She liked him so much he'll be staying at her refuge rather than going to Indiana! So I gave her organization a donation for all the help she gives so many.
Dynamics in coop are so calm and chill! Seems so odd not fighting one constantly! He had gotten so bad he would back away from me when I would try to pick him up even.
Lizzie had something white hanging out back.. shellless and empty egg...nothing inside it. What's that mean? So just the membrane I guess is proper term?
Everything went back in her (tried to prolapse?) The white skin like of an egg came on out but completely empty. Do I need to do anything?
Why is it always the ones ya luv the most that have the problems!?

Cute little bunch of feral siblings that have adopted us, well actually dropped by their mom a few months back. They are so cool I just let them hang. May have to relocate them if they don't relocate on their own. They often cruise with my flock. Bet the pullets will lay in my boxes 😉😉😉

Other than that it has been a beautiful day. Cloudy, passing showers and a good breeze. Good day to process some more bags. All stands are full 👍will cut and sew tomorrow.
Maile & Mazzie hard at work today♡ such beautiful girls.

Good morning gang!
We have a clear sky morning here. It is getting brighter earlier and reminds me we are well on our way to our next season, summer. So, I will savor the lingering cool temps and awesome bounty of spring while I can.
View attachment 3476035Got startled out of my morning coffee daze by the helpless screams of a chicken. Spider and one of the Lani's had a feral cockerel pinned and were giving it heckView attachment 3476064View attachment 3476065
It is obviously

*** so byc dropped off and I could not finish my morning note.
DH and I went on our planned adventure to pick up corks for some old bottles so we could send to grandkids... oh boy what a day! I almost got killed 2x! Good thing we had a nice lunch so my last meal would have been awesome. I did follow the last driver who tried to kill me and let her know I think she blew it and needed to pay attention... it escalated from there 😂. Hope she has a lousy Vaca and leaves soon and never comes back and tells everyone she know to never visit here. What a jerk. All cuz she was late for a stupid boat cruise and could not even say sorry for putting a bunch of people in danger with an illegal pass :smack
Well, bright side our adventure.View attachment 3476497View attachment 3476488View attachment 3476509View attachment 3476498View attachment 3476500View attachment 3476504View attachment 3476506View attachment 3476514View attachment 3476518View attachment 3476515View attachment 3476516
Very humbled visiting the graveyard being I almost made it into one today 😂😂😂
I spock some big opihi on the rock! I've always loved the serenity of the Garden Isle. Tourists, yeah, you can spot 'em everywhere, and some think road rules don't apply to them. It those that make a bad rep for all. Glad you are still with us. Traffic is no picnic, either.

Bet they're happy chickens at least? 🤣

Those sound yummy!

Your hubby sounds like a sweetheart ❤️. Night crowing seems to me just just like @Shetland lover said. Reacting to something around them.

Must have been a load of rain!

Are you going to try water glassing or something to preserve them? Beautiful eggs.
I read an article by Mother Earth magazine printed years ago. They did an experiment on how long eggs are good for using different techniques. The winner was storing unwashed eggs in an airtight container, refrigerated.

Oh, to finish up or write feral cockerel story again... Spider and the Lani scared him into a corner where I scooped him up, put him in a brooder, gave him food and water. I will give him time to build up some strength and health and then decide where he goes. He looks better already. Poor guy.View attachment 3476716
You're the chicken whisperer, rescuer, all around generous human who loves to do good. You are an inspiration. We need more people like you in this sad world we live in. Pretty shells. The kids will love those special treasures.

Is she prolapsed? If not, then I think you're good. From what I've read, it takes more effort to lay something that's soft, vs. a hard shelled egg. Opposite of our situation. If you see her insides bulging out of her vent, then you will need to treat ASAP. Like my Pepper back in March.

Need ya'lls experience to answer this. So, today, only got 4 eggs. Yesterday collected 20 whole eggs, (2 days worth) and found one with a hole, face down when I picked it up. Still had the contents in it. Found wet, probably white remnants shavings in one box, and yolk smears on eggs in another box, so 22 eggs total. First ?, could I have an egg eater, and what kind of motion camera would help me find out which one or ones are the culprits? Second, could the rehoming of Cock E have interrupted the egg laying? It seemed very quiet out there today. Houdini does crow, but not very often today.
It warmed up to 60 today, so took Velma outside to meet the flock, and run around on the grass. So cute, she followed me around for a bit, then did an all out run across the yard. She seemed like she was getting chilled so brought her back in. Everybird loves my neighbor, and when they hear his door open, they run to the fence. He is the other treat dispenser. He had chickens at one time back in the day, and now buys eggs from me.
