What did you do with your flock today?

I have more Call babies about to hatch. I put them in like a soft lockdown last night. I checked all their air cells and there was a couple I wanted to check in on again this morning. Well I got to one in particular and it has already internally pipped. So my checking was real quick. They are on day 24 today at 9:30 am but I checked about 10. So it could have happened on day 23. Either way they are coming 😁. I put the turkeys in the soft lockdown as well. I am down to 4 of those babies. I’m really hoping they all hatch.

I finished the last of my chicks I’m hatching this year…I think anyway. I had a 2 not hatched. One I could see had internally piped, but wasn’t moving and the other just looked weird. So I somewhat opened them up to find they both had cross beak. 😔
:fl💕

Worked on my run today till I couldn't work no mo'! Got all the framing in place on one of the walls, so it's now ready to hang the hardware cloth... with band aids close at hand.

Got the roof on my last coops and runs finally. Thanks to my oldest kids amazing help. Have to clean everything up, add a little hardware cloth here and there, then add roosts and nest boxes. Should be 100% ready in time for the Hamburgs to move into.

Had a king snake visit us while we were working. Stepped into the garden and saw it warming itself on the flagstones. Love how relaxed the kings are and the unusual white color spot on this one.

And found my climbing rose still has some blossoms on it. It's planted in the shade so only blooms where the branches find the sun.

Awwwww, Snookie looks so much better and it's just the most adorable thing ever that the baby sparrows are best friends with her. :love :love
She's been joining me to feed them and they like to sit on her back and she lets them. Finally some birds she does well with and they're the wrong species 😂. She loves the food I feed them ands determined to get her share, so she lines up on the perch with them and all three try to be the fastest to snatch it. If anyone asked me if a chicken is ok with baby sparrows I'd have said heck no, please don't try it...but this happy accident has been delightful. B
Last eve I went up Koke'e and picked up half a truck bed of mulch for the now dry and dusty run and surrounding areas. Dumped a few piles and will let the chooks do the spreading. Gotta love fresh mulch 👍
Had Heilani sitting on the nest last eve. Did not seem broody so I dosed her with this liquid calcium I bought awhile back but had not tried out. I think i may also dose old Mazie as she is looking a little puckered and slow. Can't hurt. With that, mental note to check my stations and make sure they are full.

Hei is broody. She flattened out and growled. So tempting... it would be her 3rd x and she is a wonderful mom... what to do, what to do...
Beeeeeebies! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣❤️😃
Beeeeebies!!! 😆

Season 9 Phoebe GIF by Friends

The babies for the Poultry Expo have started hatching as of late yesterday! These are my quail babies! Since I have lost so many quail recently I may be keeping the colors I like. Only one Italian and one silver hatched, the rest are looking Rosetta and Tuxedo and I have plenty of them haha. Today I should have more quail pipping and a bunch of d'Anvers, Ameraucanas, and Watermaals hatching! I don't know how I will sell them! :hit
I hope they all sell for you!
Today again I took Sweety out and let her peck around in the Barn lot. She mostly stayed around me till it was time to go in.This time I took a pic of her. View attachment 3489738
O she's a pretty girl ❣️

Well lovely coop progress happening on this thread. Inspiring! I'm also inspired with gratitude that I don't have to put in a new run or roof right now 😂. Too hot, too old. Great job ladies!

I have Heilani in the top brooder. No beeeeebies for me ☹. We are supposed to have some really wet weather coming this afternoon. Still dry now but quickly clouding over as I write.
Hope she breaks broody quickly as it makes me sad to have her locked up lol.

I took it easy for the most part today because I needed a break after all the work I did yesterday. But I did feed the little ones some healthy snacks. They got their first taste of salmon, which they loved. So I cooked up some more of the scraps from a whole salmon I bought today, separated the meat and skin from the bones (probably unnecessary), and mixed it with some of their starter crumbles and water to make a salmon flavored mash. The eight of them ate about a cup of it in 10 minutes.

They also devoured some lemon balm, mint, various weeds and some horseradish leaves.

High nutrient snacking! I should eat as well!
