Would you be able to take the chicks to the Farmer's Market? This morning I let Hei out of broody jail because I was too tired to put her on a roost with the flock last night. A few hours later I checked the nest boxes and there she was in the brooder box againView attachment 3503126I just did not have the energy to put her in jail again so I picked out 9 eggs and stuck them under her. View attachment 3503125Yep, I caved, she won. So, i locked the door so no more eggs would be added and walked away wondering at what age I would rehome the chicks as I am as full up as I can be and how sad that is.
Another hour later Hei came ticking by the way only she does...I'm thinking.... how did she get out of the broody box?!! Welp, was not her in the broody box... my bad, guess I forgot I have 8 buffs who lay eggs
I need a nap.
So glad she is FINALLY unbroody, or is she? To be continued....![]()
Glad you're back! Surgical theory sounds like a lot of procedures and terminology to know. Hope you did fine on it, and you're all mended from the flu. How's the collar bone? I'm free from the Spica splint. Now just self Occupational therapy until I get an actual appointment. Tending chickens and gardening helps.Hi everyone. So much to catch up on!
So glad the Expo went well, Kirby, and your afternoon tea, Popo
Congratulations, Gamma and FMB, on the new 'kids'They're both gorgeous
Great coop build, Smokerbill. I'm very envious, wish I had the skill and space.
Tropical Babies, those bloody broodies, eh? I feel your pain. Penelope is unbreakable too. She wants to be a mom soooo bad! I've promised her we'll find a way next year. Wonderful work with the kitties btw.
Sorry if I've missed anyone but my brain has totally turned to mush. I'm blaming the surgical theory test and a hideous bout of 'flu.
I don't regret getting them. Has solved the rat problem I had. It was a different brand, but does the job.Been training my new girls to use the Grandpas feeder we are on week 2 my older girl has been showing them how it's done![]()
Wow! That looks fantastic! Coming right along. Not much more to go!She ain't purty, but she swings.
Got the door pretty much installed on my run. Had to fight it a little to make it work, but all's good. I'll put the lock set on tomorrow so it has a real door knob.
And I'll rig up some kind of frame around that big hole in the door and secure it with 1/2" HWC. The window that used to be on the door is on the east side of the coop now. The chicks dig it.
Included today's pic of the chicks just because....
I worked so hard today that I deserved getting an 8 pc fried chicken from the store's deli. They make really good fried chicken! I might share some with the chickens.
Edited to add:
I cut up some of the fried chicken breast meat and hand fed to my little ones. They sure love their chicken! It's incredible how fast and accurate they are with their beaks, picking even the tiniest pieces of meat from my fingertips. So accurate, I barely feel them grabbing the morsels. And it's fun to watch. I haven't laughed so hard in a long, long time.
Chickens are therapy.
I'm glad I got 'em.

I wonder if they keep the rodent population in check?Absolutely. One of the goals is to attract more wild kitties, get them trapped and fixed and put them back into a colony where they will be fed and looked after. If they need medical attention, they trap and help. Pretty cool.
Oh no! So sorry to hear you've had the flu on top of all the other stuff you’ve been dealing with! We’ve missed you, so I’m glad to see you are okay!Hi everyone. So much to catch up on!
