What did you do with your flock today?

Elliot is less amenable to doing as he's told but Gracie will do most things for treats. I taught them to sit from being kittens as otherwise they would swarm me like piranhas at treat time. Grace even managed to bite through my thumbnail! They come when whistled too 🤣
Your kitties sound adorable 😍

Pretty darn clever training cats to behave. I went the cowards route, so I get circled, tripped and even nibbled on by my "fuzzy sharks".

We moved our little mixed age flock outside fully! Yay! Lol thanks to a couple posts here that suggested a brooder inside the coop area.

Do I see light brahmas?!!!!:love me thinks so!!!! 😍😍😍
Congratulations on a fabulously beautiful flock and its transition. Bravo!
Yes to the light brahma, my hubby wants buff brahma as well but we've not been able to find them. We have older Black Australorp, grey colored Olive Eggers and then Buff Orpingtons(the little orange nuggets haha)

I managed to get the basics covered. Feed Water and a Lecture. I did pick up a Delaware pullet for some medical attention and the school nurse is tending to her. She doesn't want to put weight on her right foot. She's in a box in front of us with food and water. She is eating layer crumbles like it is candy. Her crop was empty when I got to her. My time outside got cut short as a thunderstorm ran me in early now two days in a row. I'm lucky to have either of the layer flocks as neither end of their hoop houses got closed up last night. No signs of any stress or feathers missing a body so mine must have a Guardian Angel.

What a day. My feet hurt. My legs hurt. My back and hands hurt too. But I pretty much got my chicken run finished. There's one mouse-size hole to plug up, and I need to pile flagstones in one corner over the hardware cloth apron.

This is how I attached the HWC apron to the run baseboard. I ripped a 2x4 in half on my table saw, and attached the edge of the screen to the cut side. I then nailed the split 2 by onto the baseboard.

A couple of chickens were interested in what I was doing. Others couldn't give a rat's behind. Dusting in the wood chips was more important than my project.

I installed the skirt on the front in the same way. Had to go buy some landscape pins (giant staples) to hammer through the screen into the ground to prevent it from working its way up over time. I had a big pile of dirt mixed with coarse sand that I used to cover the screen.

I pulled out the garden hose and soaked the dirt over the skirting to help it settle and compact overnight. I feel like the chicks are pretty safe now. I'm not even going to lock them in the coop tonight. Maybe one will roost in the run.

Anyway. Today was a good day! Even got the lawn mowed, which was actually a break from doing real work. Riding the mower around the yard is fun and relaxing to me.
