What did you do with your flock today?

Aloha Kakahiaka chicken folks,
Just doing the basics for the chooks today, clean and water and fill feeders. No projects. I did lock my Dark Brahma cockerel up because he is obsessed with Mazie. I normally lock her up to keep him from mating her while she is healing but she is at the end of her heal and deserves a few free range days. It is soooooooo much more quiet around here with him caged. Unbelievable... lol.
Mazie gave me another egg yesterday that is super thrilling, I have so many eggs coming now with my broody laying also that I am thinking of selling a few 18ct- I have been giving buku out for the last few months already. IDK maybe I will freeze...
Good problem to have and took me awhile to get here
Oh, my mealworms colonies are bangin'. I am ready to start my 3rd new bin. Pretty groovy, super easy and kinda fun.

Beautiful duo! and on the cleanest perch I have ever seen including mine after just being installed. Inspiring! Makes me want to run out and scrub my coops except.... I have my 1st vac appointment today!!! So close to "normal" I can almost taste it, except... of course....they have opened my island up for visitors in a relaxed way IMO yesterday and Oahu/our state has been red for a few weeks. Will we ever learn? Feels like insanity, or tripping over the finish line. I hope not.

Thank you! I wish I could take credit for keeping everything clean, but I had to edit out the poop stains. For anyone considering painting the inside of their coop white, don’t. XD

It’s due for its yearly scrubbing, but I’ve been putting it off since it’s such a pain. I’m considering just spot cleaning it, but everytime I plan to do that, I end up taking everything out and cleaning the entire coop. I guess we’ll see how it’ll go when I find a brush I can use.

Ya know I was thinking I REALLY liked the white -easy for me to say right?- and was feeling a little bad I had not bothered to paint my coop after seeing your photo looking so perfect deep sigh***
I have the weathered raw wood sprinkled with dirt and feather look myself , oh and the poop that does not make it to my boards kind of blends
Don't you have some more roosters? Or more photos? Hint, hint, , .

Thank you on the well wishes! I am rather excited as I will be the last of my older family to get vaxed and that just opens things up that much more for my small community. Some of our young (20-30's) have been vaxed because of work but not all, think they are just getting started. I will be so glad when this is over and wonder did we learn ANYTHING from this event??? It sure is/was a great opportunity to make some adjustments. I'm trying to think of what I personally learned out of this deal and what I will do different or better....

I glad to hear people are getting vaccinated over there! Hopefully that means the pandemic will end sooner, rather than later. I try to avoid the news, so I don’t know where everyone else is on the COVID-free/vaccination scale, but I’m sure it’ll take a while before things go back to normal. I know I’m really looking forward to going back to in person classes.

Congratulations on getting back to raising chickens!

Thank you! Funny story...the first 3 hens we had were because I thought my husband would NEVER agree to chickens, I was angling for a puppy...ask big and "settle", lol. Now, we have 2 dogs (our Lab we had passed away), 2 new cats (our cat in my profile pic and our other cat both passed away as well), we even have 2 kids that we didn't have when we started!

Tonight, my guy (who wants nothing to do with building any of it or taking care of more chickens has offered to go drop $100+ on more lumber so that we don't have to piece our supporting beams together! He's a keeper for sure!

I like my Doc we laugh together about things I do burns or tripping over a dog .. have 1 hatched 1 almost let it do it is working at it and the cheerleader is on the job .. Spent the day grocery shopping

Princess Peaches' mom is a Light Brahma and her pops is a Ameraucana x silkie the color of chocolate, who is a bit of a butthead and Peaches takes after him but it somehow transferred over to a girl much better, like she def has her opinions and sticks up for herself but she is my sweetest most thoughtful. And she beats up on Bolt which is pretty funny and awesome to watch but as you can see... she somehow prefers him.

He gets sequestered for about 1 hour in the mornings and eves cuz he causes too much trouble for the flock at those times.
