What did you do with your flock today?

I guess my big back yard wasn't big enough for my chickens. I let them out of the run around 7AM, looked outside an hour later and most of them were in the neighbor's fenced in back yard. They went to the front of my house, then turned left and went past the front of my neighbor's house. Another left, down my neighbor's driveway and into her fenced backyard.
THAT is too funny :lau. Guess you picked the smart chickens in the bin.
Well, soon enough they will be too fat and content to explore too far... and im sure you will have blocked up all of the escape routes.
Nice getting outsmarted by chickens.
I was on my knees for 15 minutes chasing one last 5-6 day old chick while I was late for an appointment... I swear.
Promptly bribed the chicks with mealworms. Want them to know who the real boss is. Me... sometimes, when I have worms.

I texted her that I would be over to wrangle chickens and get them back home. Which didn't really work using a long slender stick (10 feet long) to guide/push them. My neighbor Gloria was recording the whole thing, laughing. I think she even Facetimed it to her daughter so she could watch in real time too.

I ended up removing a few boards from her privacy fence to create a chicken hole. One went through, then the rest did. I closed up the hole.

I was pretty sure they followed the fence line when they escaped, so I set up a rickety chicken barrier between my house and the fence. A few t-posts, a couple of pallets, assorted boards and some plastic mesh to add height to the top. It's chicken proof!

I gave Gloria a big head of leaf lettuce, and told her how to make wilted lettuce with it. Which she did right away and said was delicious!

Excitement with the chickens. I'm going to have to rethink allowing my birds to free range. No telling where they might end up.

I kind of think it was one of my new black copper marans cockerels that led the pullets astray. LOL

The marans seem to be a more adventurous breed, and are better foragers. I guess the grass looked greener on the other side of the fence. But it's not. Mine is greener!

I suggested to Gloria that I install a door with a drop down hatch in her privacy fence so if it happens again, they will have an easy way back home. She was cool with the idea, so that will be an upcoming project.

The deer missed one or left it for me.

Feral chicken friends following me around.

Came home just in time to see Gracie steal a mouse from Forest. Pecked him a few times when he tried to get it back.

Then she ate it 🤣
