What did you do with your flock today?

My Pru desperately needs to wear her saddle but has so far managed to wiggle out of it 6 times! I have no clue how she's managing it. She just has feather stubble in front of her tail. I don't even think she's the favourite of my two cockerels, just the slowest hen!
The elastic must not be tight enough. None have lost theirs yet here knocking on wood. They try like crazy. No sooner got on on a pullet yesterday than that saddle save her hide literally.

Thanks! Oh, really? I think we warm up slower than ya'll. Just getting into constant mid-70's as of the 22nd. Been colder, with heat spikes off and on. Only now the squash, cucumbers and beans have more than 2 leaves. Finally getting strawberries, and the other berries should be ripening soon. I'll be busy spending hours picking those next month for about 3 weeks.
Yeah, we are supposed to hit 100 by July 1 and stay there for at least 7 of the 10 days in the forecast 😭

111 here today. Ugh. And our ac went out on the living side of the house yesterday. That units only 4 years old! But we have zoned heating/cooling so I'll just spend my indoor time in the bedroom half.

Hehehehe.

I'm so happy DH came around. This is going to be awesome.
Now off to cut their pop door and reinstall run fence.
We dismantled and removed my old broody coop and I have found a home for it. So, moving right along and may be ready for July 4th getaway!
I absolutely love love love that! Can't wait to see it all done!
If I mentioned this anywhere else, people would think/know that I'm crazy.

My chickens were down in the compost area next to the woods, and I brought my camping recliner chair down there. With a beer and a little 1/4 size Iron Man guitar I bought at Goodwill for 8 bucks. I played classic rock songs for my chickens for about an hour.

At first they acted confused. And then they kicked back and relaxed, listening to the tunes. Maybe it's crazy, but I think the music soothed them.
O that sounds adorable! Not crazy at all. No one can listen to bird song and not get that animals enjoy music too. ❤️
The kids got some ground up raw pumpkin guts, and strawberry trimmings. Moved their water bowls to an easier place to fill them, so I don't have to go inside, and just fill them through the fence, bonus, they're now in the shade under the trees, where the chooks like to relax in the warm afternoons we've been having. The lilies are in their full glory right now. Love when there's color outside. Also looks better without chickens eating plants and scratching out dirt baths in the beds.View attachment 3556014View attachment 3556017
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Just gorgeous! I'm in Kurbys boat.... everything here is struggling and laying low waiting for the world to cool back off. It's so good to come on here and see pictures of lusher, greener places. Those lily's look magnificent!
Sooo pretty!! 😍 Everything here is already dying 😫
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I can only imagine the challenges you face growing roses in Arizona! They like a good amount of water and don't like it too hot. I'm amazed you can grow any at all. Although I imagine some of the single flowered and wilder varieties will do well?
I do have quite a few single flowered varieties ❤️ They remind me of the wood roses that grew wild in Washington so I love them just fine. Reminders of childhood. I have a few of the strong scented, big bloomed ones too though. I keep them all potted in clay pots with plenty of shade and they do pretty good. But smaller plants and sparser blooms then what I could grow in Washington. Still love them though ❤️

All your beautiful blooms made me smile @Shetland lover and @PopoMyers ! So I took a walk around my garden looking at my few precious flowers ❤️ Yep...almost everythings hunkered down for the summer heat. But I have a few sparse blooms hanging in there!

And my Mexican elderberry is fruiting for the first time! ❤️

What magnificent lillies! Another of my favourite flowers. I can't grow them here as giraffe neck Gladys snaps off the flower buds and then discards them having decided they're not good to eat 😠
These are post free (yard) ranging the flock. My poor primrose patch was nearly wiped out. The 6' fenced area that DH put up for the chook area has sure helped my flower beds around the house. Unfortunately, my hostas are under the fruit trees inside their area, so I have to keep those in jail. If they can reach it, they'll eat it.

🥵🔥I don't remember your area being that hot, but, what does a kid without a smart phone care about the temperature? Kids are impervious to extreme temps. Just ask why we have to wrangle in kids with bluing lips....or make them take a shade and water break before heat exhaustion hits.

Speaking of heat...I checked on everyone during the worst heat of the day yesterday and all my poor babies are hot hot hot. But they're using their shade, water bowls and moist dirt spots to get through it. Hopefully the cats claw vine I planted last fall by the new coops grows well this summer, and I started more cuttings this spring to plant out this fall. Got to get some of that cooler, deeper plant shade going for the birds.

The call of fun takes priority 🤣🤣🤣❤️

I opened up the pop door to the summer run so the hens can get some shade.
2 orpingtons left the nest box singing the egg song. That spooked the other hens (for some reason) and there was a lot of caterwauling going on. Had the young ducks running around quacking not knowing what was going on. I had to go through multiple spider webs to check the area out to be sure it wasn't a predator.
Chickens are crazy. That's all.
