I'm moving all the CXR roosters into a large run with a small sleep only coop to make room for a batch of fryers that begin processing in a couple of weeks.

I commend your efforts. I don't have the guts yet (or the time, $ and space) for meat birds. Happy with eggs for now ♡

Happy July 2 .
Last eve, just after dusk and after coming down from the mountain, folks were setting off fireworks at the beach. Lots and lots, big ones too. We got Elliott dosed and in his thundervest, then had to lock him in bathroom. Poor guy. Locked cats in house and shut all windows and turned on a bunch of fans. They all hunkered under bed and furniture . Hard to respect *** some humans. That was July 1.

So, today I got sprinklers going, wash and hang dry a few loads of laundry and packing up some basics as tonight I am heading up. Will get a few more things done so I can bring up chooks, hopefully b4 the 4th.

Have not been able to pick up vinyl. Matter of fact have not gotten a call back from company. Kauai.
So I am going to sew a bunch of feed bags together for the floor and toss mulch. It will work probably for a long while, at least long enough for me to source vinyl or something comparable.

Doors are framed, asked honey to run to town for some more welded wire, washers, plus a few odds and ends. So with this plan, I should be able to bring chooks up on the 4th

I was the processor early in life at the age of 12. Never liked it but understand it is God's way of feeding us. I may have been a Levite in a previous life the way I like BBQ is what I've told a lot of people. Ya know they got to eat of the Altar meats. I think that was the original BBQ.

Oooh feed bag flooring should work really good for now! You are making great progress, I wish mine went up that quickly haha

So as expected…I had a sick chicken discovered an hour before we left town Both her feet were really swollen but the rest of her seems fine So I slathered her legs in Vaseline, gave her some meds in her water and crossed my fingers. I can’t think of what else would cause swollen feet except leg mites (No bumblefoot) so I hope that’s it. Or she just really hates the heat and made her feet hurt so she could be inside today “I is sick Mommy, I should be inside” She looks pretty content

My chickens have clean waterers and fresh, cool water now. And they got a big handful of scratch as consolation for enduring being locked up in their run.

Mine have feed and water but no scratch until it cools down late this month or early August. Their treats now are micro waved scrambled eggs. They go bananas over those. They can wait for carbs. If we get a day in the low 80's I have some scratch handy. I do like do sit in a chair and toss it out for them and watch them scratch and sing.

People start early there! Here isn't too bad for that. Hubby loves his fireworks but he sticks to the little ones. We do get people popping off the artillery shell type around us though. Those ones scare everything.
