What did you do with your flock today?

I found another egg on the woodchips inside the run this morning, broken. There was another one broken in the same spot a few days ago, and I think I know what's happening. There's a roosting area right above it about 4 feet high, and I think the eggs are being laid up there and dropping. Need to do something, maybe redesign that roost.

Two more eggs, one in a box, another under the other roost bar, unbroken. The broken egg wasn't wasted. I buried it between a couple tomato plants.

I found out where my Jersey boy was hiding out with his girls. They were in the well house chilling. They gave me that look like "There's nothing to see here". I'll have to block the opening so they will maybe come back to a coop for the night. I don't care which one as I can catch them and lock them up where they need to be off the roost tonight. Meanwhile, that slow learning French rooster wandered down into Cornish territory while I was servicing that coop and I made it a point to hose him down. One day he will catch on maybe. The youngest brood got to free range again today and are excited to explore their world.

Piggie gets to go to the vet again this morning. Got him into a harness last night as the sanctuary people suggested. Wow that was something else. Piggie was handled so gently...and he screamed and screamed. So we sat on the porch together after until we could both breathe easy again.View attachment 3596886Then I was able to pick him up without a panicky struggle from him. He spent the night inside so I wouldn't have to terrorize him at 4am to have him at the vets in time for his appointment. View attachment 3596887
It seems to have done him some good though, he's actually less afraid afterwards and spent some time at the front of the crate just watching me instead of staying as far back as he can. He got a little molasses bread to help him feel better too...wow he likes that stuff 😄
To see more piggy action, find Dr. K's exotic animal Vet on Disney plus. They do seem to scream quite with a lot of gusto! Lucky piggie to have your sweet love and care.

Spent the last few days doing the deep clean at AJ's house. Made it to dh's refrigerator, micro and pantry last eve.
We are 5 days away from getting bombarded. I still have to finish our cottage and start the cabin clean and transport of babies. Oh, then vehicles....

Not looking forward to this at all. Last I heard, sister now has 7 people staying at the 1 bedroom cabin.... I'm like, hope you rent a van. This is the part I don't like about .... this. Lack of awareness, breaks, boundaries. The brother too went from 5 to 7 people. Cabin is best with 3-4 max. Ok, best with just 1... this one 😂😂😂😂
Hope they enjoy floor camping, and roosters crowing. I feel your pain. Their expectations are just unreal. So sorry for all your stress. Just reading all about it makes me stressed!

I have a similar system in my garden. Works beautifully until they get a taste for a particular plant. In my case, hosta and ferns.
I've now completely blocked access to two beds with black avian netting and iron stakes. It's practically invisible until you get up close and for the first time in 4 years I have hosta again! I plan to remove it in winter to allow them to clear it up for me.
Last year, before the cages went around them, the deer and chickens destroyed the hosta leaves. Now that they are inside the 6' fence, and inside cages, they are mostly all there. The chickens have gotten what they can reach through the 2x4" fence, which will be chicken wire next season.
This morning there were about 10 of the White Giant flock out grazing when I got up. They never made it to their coop last night. Now I'm going to have to build a trap of some kind to catch them and confine them to a coop and run. Naughty bunch they are. One rooster with his pullets following close to him. He struts like a proud young fellow with them in tow.
Now, how many different flocks do you have, and how many total, without using chicken math.

That can be puzzling, to say the least. Their equipment is still working out the kinks.

Where am I?

but mom, I was just trying to help. My name is Onyx, and I was just making mom think I was done going over fences and getting stuck when I was just chilling in the yard yesterday. She didn't know I was in the garden until I went by her picking berries and opened my big beak. I could've had a play day in the garden.
