What did you do with your flock today?

Good morning gang and 🌺Happy Aloha Friday!!! Happy Sept 1 and us being that much closer to fall! 🍁🍂

Spent most all day in Lihue town yesterday. DS got his eyes checked and glasses ordered ♡♡♡ plus more items off his and AJ's list. KiUC turned off electric to Koke'e because of wind warning, so was a good day to be gone. Bonus.
Officially switching over 2 stands to fund raise for Lahaina ♡♡♡ A little more footwork to do in the next week. DS is going to paint a stand for me😁🤙 AND, I received a text order for 15 horse bags from someone on the mainland!!! I will give them their choice on who they want to donate to.

Mountain flock has mites... so, gotta split myself in half again and treat flock and clean coop. i had just done a physical on them (3 bird check) and they were clean, but i picked up a bucket of poop that i forgot to compost and it was crawling 😬 Dont like mites... good news is I have a fire pit 😉 and all things needed to succeed for their treatment. I barely have time to glance at my chickens now-a-days ☹️. I miss my babies.

The rental I manage has a cracked trap under their sink... so I may spend my morning under their sink if plumber is not available. 😖

So, for me, I'm super busy... too busy.
That is busy! On the plus side, I swear active minds and bodies are the key to longevity. ❤️ But I do hope it quiets enough for you to relax some!
That's wonderful on stands to help Lahaina and on a large mainland order!

Picked up some chickens from a friend whos laid up for a bit. I couldn't take them all in but took in a handful... hopefully not for too long. And hopefully she can find others to take in more birds and her dogs.

Rest of the day was errands and jelly making. Made prickly pear jelly with my youngest. I haven't made jelly in a few years and it was a pleasant surprise to have her ask me. It was a good time spending most of the day in the kitchen with her...even if I ended up listening to her music the whole time 😂. Had to make two batches of jelly to use up all the prickly pears we picked!View attachment 3625010View attachment 3625011
Yummy!! That sounds pretty delicious 🥰

You are busy!! Goodness 😳 I hope you’re able to find some rest time! I know how quickly it goes from “I got this” to “OMG I have SO not got this”! Speaking of bags—I have a big stack for you! Lots of boring patterns but bags! 😁😁 I’m going to empty out this round and be in touch to send them! ❤️ Happy Friday! Temps today only hit 75…it felt AH-mazing!

Been trying to give the littles some free range time in the evenings—they really love it. Kids do too 😁

Shadow got home last night from his last vet visit! All his shots, neutered, and microchipped. He’s seriously so happy to be inside with his people. I picked the worst ratter ever 😆😆 And I just had to share “playtime with Koda” because his desperate eyes pleading for help just make me giggle everytime I look at it 😆😆😆

Also took some glamour shots of a few of the teens to study for possible shows/breeding. And sold 5 of my illegally hatched d’Anver babies to a local lady. Felt good to make her happy and anxiety inducing for me 😆 what if I have her the BEST show bird 🤦🏼‍♀️😆

Nice job miss kurby.

I think we are at about the same latitude, but weather can be hard to predict. A friend recommended Delicata years ago, and I haven't been successful in the few times I tried. Giving up on those. Might try a bush turban next season. Did not have to grow winter squash in Texas, as very successful sweet potatoes made a great garden and table substitute. And, no squash bug problems. My Greensleeves apple is an English variety.
Wine seems to be the best way to "preserve" fruit for us. Not much jam or canned fruit or jams get eaten, and makes a great gift. The process is easy. Just the waiting isn't...... Can't rush the aging process. Luckily, non grape fruit wines mature between 6-12 months. The plum wine is in the second ferment and racking. Looks to be around 14%. I've never made peach wine before. Here's a crazy thing. I hardly drink alcohol, because genetically my liver doesn't have the enzyme to process alcohol, so it goes straight into my bloodstream. Just enjoy making it.

Our weather has been utterly unpredictable this year - more so than normal! Yesterday was supposed to be sunny and reasonably warm. It was grey and drizzly all day!
I love Turks Turban squash. I sowed some this year and had some labelled as that when I planted them out but it looks like they're all blue banana or Crown Prince (which I also sowed). Go figure!
I tend to either freeze, can, dehydrate or make jams, curds and chutney with our fruit and other produce. I'm not a big jam lover either but DH is, so I make some for him and give the rest away.
I do make cordial and flavoured vinegar or oils too. And apple juice with the excess apples.
Neither of us drink much at all these days so I don't think wine would get drunk. Waiting for it to mature wouldn't be an issue! I do make sloe gin for Christmas each year though. That always goes down well as gifts!

That's a lot of jam!
I've never had prickly pear, what's it like?
