What did you do with your flock today?

2 of the leghorn pullets had roosted in the apple tree this evening, and did not look very comfortable. I was going to let them stay, but decided not to let them start the habit. Moved them to Onyx's coop, but one came back out. I closed them in so they couldn't go back in the tree. I revamped the coop a little yesterday by taking down the plastic mesh, and adding another 2" wood next to the 2x4 so the girls would roost more comfortably. I think and hope the hen's lower bare abdomen will grow feathers back. Not so sure about her bald head.

Oh gosh! I hope Stanley will be okay! I have something to help with that. I use Vetericyn and just put drops of it on their water. It treats all the birds that way, but can't hurt them. Also, it's good to put it under their wings or anywhere you think they might preen. It works like a good Vicks chest rub for them that way. Its worth a try. Someone else will probably have more specific advice.
Will vetericyn opthalmic gel work in the same way? I have that on hand from Ferdy's eye injury. I'm going to start nebulising him 3 times a day from today. It might work in the nebuliser.

No! You tell Stanley that is NOT allowed! He needs to rest and recover quickly as he is needed and loved! Maybe some herbals would do him some good? Poor you! They just don’t wanna stay healthy for you! I hope it’s a passing thing and goes away with some extra love and rest!
Everyone else is keeping well just now :fl
Just this problem with Stan. I wish I could figure out what's causing it. At least then I could set him on the correct course of treatment. I'm pretty much using a scatter gun approach right now.
At the moment, he's on a course of tylan, which I'm dissolving in coconut water (the only way I can ensure he gets the full dose - he absolutely adores coconut). He's also getting thyme, oregano, cinnamon and echinacea added to his meals. He's had a full worming and I'm putting VetRX on him. I'm waiting on some levamisole to worm for gapeworm, just in case. I've looked down his throat and taken a swab but it looks clear. I need a microscope!
I'm beginning to suspect it's possibly a heart condition but the symptoms don't quite fit that either.

Ohhh I hope it’s nothing serious like that 😣 Sounds like you’re doing all the things, so I’m hoping it’s enough! 🤞🏻🤞🏻 I’m glad that everyone else is behaving and staying well though…knock on wood!

How are you doing? You staying healthy and healing from the injuries you sustained awhile back? Is it hot there yet? It is here 😣 Supposed to be 105 on Wednesday 😫 I bought a solar fan, new misting hoses and two mister stands…gonna stock up on watermelons and ice next! I’m not ready for the heat!

Those Leghorns sound like independent ladies! My bantam Bielefelder Baby Bee is that way! She escaped the run every day and wanders the yard by herself all day, then comes to the patio to roost at night. So every night she’s escorted to her coop…😍 Naughty girls but so cute!

Today I wrapped up grow out coop #2…installing the doors. I’ve decided I hate doors, they never come out like I plan. I measured so many times and was still off so much I ended up adding extra wood to the frame 😣 They look pretty good despite all the trouble though :)

Some of the babies seemed happy to have visitors…

While others seemed a bit less impressed with the intrusion 😁

Oh holy cow!!!! I'm saying the wrong thing about Vetericyn!!! Now that you mention it, it is VetRX i was talking about!!! The Vetericyn is for wound care. I'm so sorry!!! Got my meds mixed up in my head!!!
Man, I hate getting old!!!

I spoke to my vet friend from the course I did. He's coming over next weekend on his day off to examine Stan, see if he can spot the problem.

I'm o.k., thanks. My back is seriously playing up right now - which isn't the best timing given how much needs doing round here but, hey, that's life. How are you doing?

It is definitely not hot here. In fact, we're experiencing our first semi-warm, dry spell in at least a month. It has been so wet, I'm surprised the chickens haven't evolved webbed feet!
I'm not good with heat, I don't know how you cope with it. 105° sounds like the fires of Hell to me! We hit those sort of temps for a couple of weeks 2 years ago and I had wringing wet sheets over the coop and run to provide somewhere cooler and shady for everyone. I went out at one point to find Gladys and Connie stood up to their bellies in our garden 'pond' (it's not much bigger than a half barrel) 😆. I don't know how you deal with those temps every year, hats off to you!

Oh wow! Such disapproval! Is she one of your Watermaal chicks? She's so pretty, if a little stern looking ;)
And that muff on your other baby! I just want to ruffle those little cheek feathers sooo bad! Such a pretty colour too.
The coop looks great! Love the wallpaper.

That makes two of us! My friend is menopausal and says her "brain has stopped braining". I feel like mine has atrophied completely 🤣
